The Rainbow Bridge

...Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so -
'twas heaven here with you.
                                              -Isla Paschal Richardson

Daddy
4 years ago, we adopted this big ball of simple sweetness from Pet Rescue By Judy. He looked just like Cesar Millan’s Daddy Dog, so the foster home named him that and we kept it. Daddy enhanced our lives more than we can say and taught us all about unconditional love, gratitude, patience, trust and kindness. Daddy joined the other animals at the Rainbow Bridge a few days ago and we miss him very much, but are so grateful to you for bringing him into our lives. We have made a donation in his name through PayPal. Thank you for all you do for the disadvantaged animals. ~ Ann Trione

Daisy
Oh Daisy, you are a perfect example of how many wonderful animals end up in a shelter and deserve a second chance. You certainly didn’t deserve to leave this earth so soon. Your sweet face and freckled nose just melted my heart every time I looked at you. After we lost your companion, Trixie, we were so hopeful you would pull through. I’m so sorry that your last days were spent in pain and discomfort. Daisy died due to progressive neurological Distemper, contracted at the shelter. Just know how much we loved you and how much we wanted you to stay with us. You will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. ~Melissa & John W.

Deputy
I remember when Deputy came into our rescue. He and his best buddy, three-legged Sheriff, were picked by Officer Rogers and brought to Judy. What a happy mess they were! Deputy was adopted but returned a couple of years later when his owner moved. He then stole the hearts of Amanda and Kevin. They gave him a loving home for the all-to-brief remaining time he had. Those of us who adopt senior dog know that we'll say good-bye sooner than we want, but we also know the love of an adopted senior dog is deep and unmoving. Thank you to Amanda and Kevin for loving this boy! From Amanda & Kevin: About 9 months ago we also adopted Deputy. We're still reeling from his passing a few weeks ago. But I wanted to share a bit about him from the amazing time we had him. There just aren't proper words to describe how wonderful he was. He had us all wrapped around his little paw and we couldn't have been happier. He was a laid back and mellow pup, unless you went near the treat jar or leashes. Oooh boy, once he realized he was either getting a treat or going for a walk, you'd have thought he was puppy all over again. He would bounce around, wave his paw, and woo at you to hurry up. He and Kirin became very close, both enjoying just being near each other. Kirin would often entice him to play with toys and he came to love any toy with a squeaker. His favorite was squeaky squirrel, a small stuffed squirrel. He would trot around with it just so proud of himself. He also loved to get tummy rubs, often rolling over and waving his paws until he got them (which never took long, who could resist that?!). By far his favorite activity was going for a walk down to Lake Eola. We'd have to make a number of stops along the way so he could rest, which he enjoyed, as the stops were often at places that would give him a treat. He really loved to try and catch a duck at the lake, he would get so excited seeing them. I think one of the more adorable things he would do (aside from paw waving) is that he would actually knock on the door to go out or come back in from the fenced in yard. He brought so much happiness, smiles, and laughter into all of our lives. It has been terribly difficult saying good bye to him. We miss him every day, it's very hard to believe he's gone. He will always have a very special place in our hearts. We treasured every moment we had with him and are so glad we were able to love and spoil him for the time he had left. Amanda and Kevin

Dixie
Sweet Dixie passed away at 14 in September 2005. Dixie was for sure my "heart dog" . Everybody who met her fell in love with her - even people who thought Dobermans were mean. Not her! She was the happiest dog you could ever meet & I think she was on a mission to change the image of Dobermans!

Duke
All of the wonderful volunteers at PRBJ,

On 24 April, 2005, I adopted a dog through your organization. Chief, tag # 2983, was a ~1 1/2 year old German Shepherd mix, who we renamed Duke. We had a kind's rocky start, as Duke was fear-aggressive towards almost all adult men, but with the help of a great group of neighbors, we managed to convince him that most men were not going to hurt him. From then on, I could not have asked for a better dog. He was my travelin' dog, my co-pilot on thousands of miles of cross-country travel. His first trip was a 3600 mile, 8 days drive from Oviedo, FL to Pullman, WA, where he lived with me for the rest of his life. From Pullman, we made many road trips around the Pacific Northwest and down into California. I think he would have lived in the truck, given a choice.

He was a great hit with everyone who he met, good with children, women and (most) men. He was very sociable with other dogs, and loved to play and wrestle; loved his cats and his canine housemate; loved to snuggle, tho' he did hog the bed.

Sadly, he developed lymphoma late summer last year. We caught it early, and started chemotherapy at the Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He responded very well initially, but the treatments quit working in the 2nd week of February, 2016, and I let him go 20 Feb, 2016. I am attaching a couple of pictures taken the 7th and 8th of February , shortly before his health really went downhill; as you can see, he was still livin' large!

I want to thank you all, as an organization and as individuals, for all of the work you put into rescue of all the critters, dog and cats. I do a fair amount of volunteer work at our local shelter, the Whitman County Humane Society, and I know first-hand the amount of effort, and sometimes heartbreak, that goes into this work. And I want to thank you for putting Duke into my life for almost 11 years; he will be in my heart forever.

I am making a donation via PayPal in his memory, a very small thing compared to what he gave me.
