Winnie P. came to us from a county shelter with her 10 (yes 10!!!) beautiful puppies when their time was up. She is about 3 years old and is very sweet. She is now spayed and needs to find a good home like her puppies did. Winnie P. was emaciated when she came to us and still needs to gain a little more weight but overall she is doing great.

Winnie P. is housebroken and crate trained. She absolutely loves people and often has a smile on her face. She is good with other dogs and likes to play. She has a hardy appetite and likes to eat. She is very quiet. She sometimes jumps up when she's excited so we're working on that but for the most part she's a very well behaved and loving dog. She can be a little timid in new environments but will settle in and come out of her shell with a little encouragement.

Winnie P. has a beautiful reddish brown coat and really pretty eyes. When she sits next to you and looks up at you for affection it will melt your heart.

Winnie P. was named after Arnold Palmer's wife Winnie. You may be familar with a local hospital named after her. . . .We named all of Winnie P.'s babies after famous golfers!

A big thank you goes to Adam Greenburg for generously sponsoring medical care for this whole family.

Foster Update 7/11/11: Winnie's coat is super soft and a chocolate color.  She also has chocolate colored eyes!  She weighs around 50 pounds but it's all muscle!  She's in very good shape and loves to go for runs or bike rides.  I take her rollerblading and I end up sweating like crazy and she barely even has to run to keep up with me.  She's also ok with just cuddling with you on the couch watching TV :)

She is generally pretty calm all the time unless you get her excited.  When you come home from being out, she gets very excited and pants and wags her tail like crazy.  She also gets very excited when she knows that she's going to go on a walk.  If you say "Winnie, let's go!" she goes straight to the front door and waits for you.

I feed her twice a day.  Once, when I wake up and once when I eat dinner.  She eats a grain, corn, and soy free diet, currently VF diet brand.  She doesn't seem to like the kibble too much so I mix in some wet food and make sure it gets mixed up really well with the kibble so she eats it all.  Otherwise, she will literally ONLY eat the wet food!  I feed her a heaping cup of kibble mixed with some high protein wet food.   1 can of wet food approximately last 3-4 days.

She's not super quick to adapt.  She was very very shy with us at first.  All she wanted to do was sit on the couch and sleep all day.  She seemed to ery scared but was also very submissive to us and also to our other dog who is less than half her size lol.  She also didn't want to eat food or treats even when we first took her home.  The only thing I could get her to eat was steak (big surprise!) She would also get very scared if you used a stern voice with her.  It was harder for my boyfriend to ask her to do things like sit or get down or any other command because she would just get scared with his deep voice.  You almost have to ask her nicely to get down or sit and she does it right away.  She just got scared easily.  It took about 1 week for her to FULLY come out of her shell although she made some progress every day.  It wasn't until the first week past that she was being herself 100%.  Now she listens well when we ask her to get down or sit as long as we ask her nicely and don't use a stern voice.  If you use a stern voice, she buries her head in the pillows and tried to hide, poor thing!

I can't really say she has any bad behavior!  She's sooo calm and submissive that she hasn't done ANYTHNG wrong!  We did train her to only get on the couch when she was invited because we didn't want her to be on the couch if we were eating on the couch but she has done very very well with that and will wait by the couch and stare at you until you tap it and invite her up.

Winnie is good with ALL people of ALL ages.  Because she's so calm, she's PERFECT for kids!  Kids love her because she's soft and friendly.  She does love to lick when she really likes somebody so she may lick the kids faces (since they are at eye level) and sometimes the kids get spooked but she has NEVER jumped on a child and has always sat patiently and let them pet her as much as they wanted.

•She's very good with other dogs.  She does not growl or instigate fights.  We have a small long haired dachsund and Winnie has gotten along with her very very well.  They even play and Winnie makes sure she is cautious so that she doesn't hurt our little dog.  She's good with dogs of all sizes and does not try to be the dominant one.  I have seen one other dog try to be dominant over her and she DOES defend herself but she has never tried to be the dominant one right off the bat

Winnie knows "sit", "down" (to get off the couch", and "bed".  We are currently working on "paw" and "stay" and she's making good progress!!

Winnie IS housetrained but you have to make sure you let her out AT THE VERY LEAST 3 times a day.  We walk her once in the afternoon (when it's not too hot) and she runs around in the backyard at night and in the morning to go.  She doesn't like to be outside by herself so she will go outside quickly, do her business, and them whine to come back in.  She has a crate but she doesn't like to be crated when you're not home.  We tried to put her in there twice and she somehow got out (I have no idea how) but she didn't do anything bad... just say by the couch and waited for us to come home.  I have NOT crated her since then and she has not done one bad thing, not at all.  She's a really good dog and understands what she CAN chew on (toys) and what she can't.

She's pretty willing to learn tricks but you have to get the right treats!  She loves the really meaty treats like Milo's Kitchen or Waggin Train.  These are dehydrated meat treats and she wll do ANYTHING to get these.  But if you try to use a Milkbone or something... she may not be too responsive.

She's SOOO SWEET!  She just stares at u with her big eyes and just licks you and wants to be near u at all time doing whatever you're doing. When I get in bed, she gets in bed.  When I eat my diner, she eats her dinner.  WHen I take a nap, SHE lies with me and takes a nap!  She's so good and super calm.  She would be a good dog for anybody who loves her and gives her lots of attention.

Winnie would do best with someone who spends time at home and is not working all the time and going out all the time.  She gets very attached and loves to be with people or at least with another dog.  She really hates being alone.  She would do well with someone who works part time or someone who has kids that come home in the early afternoon so she has someone to hang out with.  Like I said, she's super good with kids and loves the attention and kisses they give her!
