Sheriff is a very pretty, very capable three-legged Boxer. She is missing her back left leg, why we do not know.
Sheriff and her best friend in the whole wide world, Deputy, came to us compliments of the Orlando Police Department. Late one night in early November, Judy received a phone call from Officer Rogers, telling her about two dogs in the "homeless" area. One of them was three legged and chained up, the other was roaming free. Judy, who didn't have anything to else to do at 10:35pm, agreed to meet the officer. They had no problem with the chained dog (immediately dubbed "Sheriff"). As soon as she was freed, she happily hopped in the car and went to sleep. Not so much her buddy, Deputy. After an hour of chasing the dog near and yon, over the meadows and through the woods, Judy nearly breaking her ankle because she's wear sandles, they admit defeat and Judy takes Sheriff home. But not one to admit defeat, Officer Rogers went back at the end of his shift, and who comes trotting up to him like they're best buddies? Yup, Deputy! So, 2:30am Officer Rogers is on Judy's doorstep with a grin of triumph on his face, Deputy by his side! Ta Dah!!!

Well, you can imagine that these two dogs needed a wee bit of cleaning up ~ hence Deputy's shaved coat. But, oh, what a joy they are! Sweet and affectionate, loving people and caring for each other. It is our hope-against-hope that they will be adopted together since it appears that their relationship has been the only constant in their lives. To that end, we will reduce their combined adoption fee to $200. Please, is it too much to ask for their to be room enough in your heart for TWO dogs?????

Volunteer update: When I showed up at the shelter today, I saw one of our volunteers walking sheriff. He does so well with his three legs that I didn't even notice that one was missing. It wasn't until he turned around that I could tell. He was running back and forth like nothing. He is really sweet and loving and would make a great companion for anyone.

12/28 Foster update:
Sheriff and Deputy were fostered over Christmas by a great foster mom. She wrote this about them..
”Wonderful dogs- very sweet and loving. They love to wrestle together which is so cute to watch. They prefer to be in the house, or wherever the people are. They are housetrained and didn’t go in the house even once. Deputy is more subdued but sheriff is a bundle of energy and very curious. Deputy loves the hard chew bones and can spend hours on one. Sheriff just buries his. They love to play fetch but its better to play with them separately or else sheriff dominates making it no fun for Deputy.

Their only flaw as far as I can see is that they are not good with cats. Its hard to tell if its just curiosity or playfulness but they do exhibited the “pack” mentality with cats –ganging up on them, cornering them and then who knows ( I did not let it get that far). They can not be left alone with cats.

They love walks however Deputy appears to have a foot or hip problem that is exacerbated by walks. They are not excessive barkers or droolers and are relatively “clean” dogs. They were so easy to take care of and fun to have that I absolutely hated to bring them back but I have to put the well being of my 3 cats first. These dogs deserved a very good home and they should defiantly stay together.

01/11 Volunteer Update:
When I am at the Center I always enjoy going to see Sheriff. She is so happy (and Deputy is happy just to be with Sheriff - the simple things in life!) Sheriff always seems to be smiling - seriously.

1/28 Foster Update:
Sheriff & Deputy are a fantastic pair. They really love each other and have been fun to have in my home. They are very well behaved and have perfect house manners. If you are looking for a dog (or two) that won't take a lot of hard work, look no further. These two are completely housebroken, do not need to be crated when you are not home, and have not torn anything up except dog toys. It took them less than 2 days to completely adjust to our schedule, and we have 3 other dogs in t
