Description:

Lucky was found by a man who found injured and laying in the dirt. Thankfully, they were not serious and she's back on her feet again and feeling spunky!!!
Lucky is now looking for her furever family...will you be that special someone to foster or adopt her? She would be happiest in a home where her family is home most of the day to give her lots of attention.

Foster Update 1/16/15

Lucky is a good girl and continues to be little Miss Independent.    She spends much of the day sleeping in her crate or a dog bed.   Her crate door is open all day so she can go in and out when she wants.    She is very vocal and tells us if she needs to go out, wants water or is hungry!   She is a very delicate little girl and needs to be in a home without young children.   She still is not a fan of being held or on a lap.   She will happily sleep in bed at night but still keeps a distance - she likes her space!

Foster Update 12/19/14

Lucky is recovering from her spay surgery and hernia repair.   She is so tiny and thin that we have been giving her some extra food mid-day, making 3 meals daily.    She might be small but she is fierce when she wants to be!    If one of the other dogs tries to play with her and she does not want to, she definitely lets them know!    She has been feeling much better since her surgery and it is so nice to see her tail curled up over her back and wagging!    She still is not big on being picked up or held but does like to know where you are.   She will go into her crate or on to one of the dog beds and sleep a large part of the day.    She is adorable!

Foster Update 11/28/14

Lucky is a real sweetie!  She is very tiny and delicate and would do best in a home without younger children.   She is not a huge fan of being held or on a lap.   She likes to be right near "her people" but doesn't like to be held for long periods of time.   She is very sensitive to the cold weather.    She is a good eater and gets quite vocal at mealtime - ours or hers!    She does not get any food other than dog food and is learning that begging will get her nowhere.     She has some interesting talking noises when she wants something!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Chihuahua is the oldest breed on the American continent and the smallest breed in the world. Native to Mexico, nonetheless it seems to have been introduced by the Chinese. It was only brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where he was brought to the rest of the world by travelers. This breed is believed to have been sacred to the Pre-Columbian Indian nations. The Chihuahua is a popular, economical companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. They like to lick their owner's faces. It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
