Description:

Jimbo and his sister Jinny were rescued from a junk yard. These sweet Dachshund blends were wandering in the road when a rescue volunteer spotted them. She approached the owner asking why they were loose to run in the streets. The owner glady gave these sweet one-year-old siblings up because they "weren't really her dogs anyway and they get into stuff". We are happy to help find these cute little mixes a home.  They still have plenty of puppy  behaviors and will be a lot of fun.  They are very well crate trained, and  we believe will do great with older kids.  No babies because they are so happy and bouncey. They love each other and are very bonded but would do well in seperate homes as well.

  • Leash Manners - Jimbo walks well on a leash with a regular collar.
  • Crate/House Training - He is house trained and crate trained.  I leave his crate open throughout the day and he goes in his crate to take a nap and goes in easily at night.  I crate him when I leave the house for a couple of hours.
  • Socialization - He is friendly with other dogs, people and children.  He enjoys playing with my dogs. He enjoyed meeting new dogs at the dog park and kept his eye on me and stayed with my pack.
  • Energy Level and Exercise - He is very puppyish and playful.  He loves wrestling and chasing with his sister, Jinny.  They are always together when they are out of their crates.  He enjoys playing fetch and playing tug with the toys with Jinny.  He also enjoys playing with my dogs.
  • Daily Structure and Schedule - He walks 1 mile every morning and goes to the dog park twice a week. He eats 3/4 cup of Tase of Life dog food twice a day and gets a couple of treats - usually while we're training.  I have him sit for treats.  I have taught him to go to his spot to eat and he sits before I put his bowl down.  He enjoys playing in the back yard with the other dogs and digging in the sandbox.
  • Confidence Level - Jimbo is a confident, well-balanced dog.  He was comfortable meeting dogs and people on his first trip to the dog park.  I have seen no agression.
  • Obedience Training - Jimbo quickly learned sit, off and come.  We're working on wait.  He pauses and sits so I can go out the door without him trying to follow and I'm trying to teach him to wait outside the kitchen area while I cook. He will wait for about 1 minute before coming in to check on me so he will learn it in time.  He makes good eye contact and seems to want to please so he's very trainable.
  • Behaviors - Because he is a small dog and still puppyish, he jumps on me when he first sees me and sometimes while I'm walking.  He stops when I tell him off and has stopped trying to bite my shoe strings while I walk. He gently mouths me at times when I pet him. I stop petting him when he does this and say leave it so he is calmer when he greets me.  He really enjoys when I sit in the floor and massage him.  He is still in the chewing stage and loves chewing on marrow bones.  He is destructive with stuffed toys but does well with hard rubber sticks and balls (like Kong) and rope toys.
  • Personality Quirks - Jimbo has a sweet, playful personality and loves being near his person.  He could easily be trained to stay in the front yard while his owner is out there and maybe play with a neighbor's dog.
  • Ideal Home -  Jimbo would love to go to the same home as his sister.  They play well together and look for each other as soon as they're out of their crates.  They instantly start playing but will follow me to the yard and do their business.  Jimbo has a lot of energy and would enjoy a yard or someone who walks him often.  He would do well with children over 6 since he's still a little mouthy.

If Jinny and Jimbo are adopted together their combined adoption fee is $225.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.
