Description:

Jimbo and his sister Jinny were rescued from a junk yard. These sweet Dachshund blends were wandering in the road when a rescue volunteer spotted them. She approached the owner asking why they were loose to run in the streets. The owner glady gave these sweet one-year-old siblings up because they "weren't really her dogs anyway and they get into stuff". We are happy to help find these cute little mixes a home.  We do not know about their background, other than they look like Doxie blends and were given to us by a not so interested owner.  We will help them find their forever home and loving parent!!!  They still have plenty of puppy behaviors and will be a lot of fun.  They are very well crate trained, and  we believe will do great with older kids.  No babies because they are so happy and bouncey. They love each other and are very bonded so it would be great for them to go together, but would do well in seperate homes as well, since they are so young.

  • Leash Manners - Jinny walks well on a leash with a regular collar.
  • Crate/House Training - She is house trained and crate trained.  She goes in her crate to take a nap and goes in easily at night. I crate her when I leave the house for a couple of hours.
  • Socialization - She is friendly with other dogs, people and children. She enjoys playing with my dogs. She enjoyed meeting most new dogs at the dog park and kept her eye on me and stayed with my pack. She snarled at a large friendly dog that got too close to her.  I sprayed her with a water bottle and said no and she was friendly when greeting other dogs.
  • Energy Level and Exercise - She is very puppyish and playful. She loves wrestling and chasing with her brother, Jimbo. They are always together when they are out of their crates. She enjoys playing fetch and playing tug with the toys with Jimbo. She enjoys playing with my smaller dog.
  • Daily Structure and Schedule - She walks 1 mile every morning and goes to the dog park twice a week. She eats 3/4 cup of Tase of Life dog food twice a day and gets a couple of treats - usually while we're training. She sits for treats. She goes to her spot to eat and sits before I put her bowl down. She enjoys playing in the back yard with the other dogs and digging in the sandbox.
  • Confidence Level - Jinny is a confident dog and is a little alpha - mostly when she's near me or if there's a treat involved.  She doesn't like other dogs approaching us when I'm petting her and she'll snarl at them or try to herd them away.  I say "no" and put her down if she was in my lap and I am seeing this behavior less often.  She had no issues with other dogs on her second trip to the dog park.  She played with several new dogs and enjoyed walking in the water.  She barks when someone new comes in the house but is curious about them and is friendly with them before they leave.
  • Obedience Training - Jinny quickly learned sit, off and come. We're working on wait . She pauses and sits so I can go out the door without her trying to follw and I'm trying to teach her to wait outside the kitchen area while I cook. She will wait for about 1 minute before coming in to check on me so she will learn it in time. She makes good eye contact and seems to want to please so she's very trainable.
  • Behaviors - Because she is a small dog and still puppyish, she jumps on me when she first sees me and sometimes while I'm walking. She stops when I tell her off and has stopped trying to bite my shoe strings while I walk. She gently mouths me at times when I pet her. I stop petting her when she does this and say leave it so she is calmer when she greets me. She really enjoys when I sit in the floor and massage her. She is still in the chewing stage and loves chewing on marrow bones. She is destructive with stuffed toys but does well with hard rubber sticks and balls (like Kong) and rope toys.
  • Personality Quirks - Jinny has a sweet, playful personality and loves being near her person. She could easily be trained to stay in the front yard while her owner is out there.
  • Ideal Home - Jinny would love to go to the same home as her brother. They play well together and look for each other as soon as they're out of their crates. They instantly start playing but will follow me to the yard and do their business. Jinny has a lot of energy and would enjoy a yard or someone who walks her often. She would do well with children over 6 since he's still a little mouthy.

If Jinny and Jimbo are adopted together their combined adoption fee is only $225.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.
