Description: Titus was picked up in Georgia after being brought there from Kentucky. He was found bloody, with cuts and bite marks all over his face and body. He was taken to a group where we were told that no American Staffordshire Terriers were allowed in that county and that he would be euthanized. Both said that he showed signs of being a bait dog because of the injuries and the rope/wire marks on his hind leg. After further investigating by the police it turns out that the origin of the dog was not just a dog fighting/breeding area but that they also had cock fights there at the property. Property was seized and fines were given. And a lot of animals lost their lives. Titus is one of the lucky ones.
Foster Update: Titus came home with me and was introduced to my two dogs and a cat. He doesn't mind the cat at all. He couldn't care less. As for the two dogs, he has bonded with them and has been accepted into their pack. My two dogs play pretty rough with another but seem to baby Titus. It's almost as if they know. He also gets along with children 10 years and up from information given to me from the original rescuer. I have taken Titus to work with me since the rescue and he is doing great. He likes other people, doesn't bark, and follows me constantly. He listens to sit and stay very well. He also knows the word "no". He is house trained and all this leads me to think that he might have been taken sometime ago by these people who did this to him. He is a well behaved and very calm dog who loves to be with people. He seems to not like his crate much and will not go into it freely. He sleeps with the other dogs in the bed and stays there until the morning. He walks great on a leash and is the perfect dog for a car ride. He is on oral and topical medication for his skin injuries. He has been neutered, had his Parvo and Distemper shots, Rabies shot and is heart worm negative. He likes EVO dog food (he is a picky eater). He is on a lot of medication and needs a lot of love. He most likely will be a great asset to anyone who can take him along places. He is 1 1/2 to 2 years old according to the vet who saw him in Kentucky. This guy is the calmest Pit I have ever experienced. But he is a lover who needs someone to give him some love back.
Leash Manners Titus walks well on leash, he doesn't pull. I use a regular type of collar but I'm thinking of changing to a harness.
Crate/House Training He is house trained.
Socialization Titus is fantastic with people of all ages/genders/races, good with kids, dogs, cats, other animals.
Daily Structure and Schedule Titus's energy level is very low. He goes to work with me everyday or even gets to go with my brother to work. I do this so that he does not get too attached to me. He loves to sleep, walk and just follow you around. It is as if he is scared that you will leave him. I still have to slowly leave him home alone for certain periods of time so that he can get over his separation anxiety.
Confidence Level It is hard to read his confidence level. I would say that he is submissive but he shows no signs of aggression whatsoever. He just rolls with the punches and is submissive at all times.
Obedience Training Titus pretty much knows the routine. Sit, Down, Off, Stay, Come.
Behaviors Titus has no bad behaviors that I have noticed except for his gas problem. Which we are trying to control with more meds.
Personality QuirksTitus just loves kids and people in general. He is a magnet for people who look at him first and think of him as a fighting dog because of his injuries. But once I explain how PRBJ, Judy and I rescued him from Kentucky, they all stop and pet him and give him love. A lot of them even cry when they see his wounds that are finally starting to heal.
Ideal Home I think Titus's ideal home would really be a person who can take him to work every day. Should it be in an office or even a retail enviroment. This dog is awesome. I have had a customer meet him and is even willing to pay for a evaluation for him to see if he might have the temperament to become a therapy dog. He is also the perfect dog to educate those who think that all pit bulls are aggressive.
The Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. They are highly protective of their owners and the owner's property. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed, they should not be left alone with unfamiliar children. Used as all around working farm dogs, they were referred to as "the poor mans horse". They are strong and generally weigh between 40 and 70 lbs. They have a life expectancy of about 12 - 14 years.
