Frank was our first arrival of the New Year. He was found loping around Lake Eola by a kind woman, who brought him to us. Let me tell you, this is a great dog! He has shown no aggression towards other dogs, and walks well on the leash, although like most bulldogs, he wants to go where he wants to go; however, if you tell him "no, come here," he'll be right back at your side. He loves to be petted. Right now, we are treating him for a skin condition, but otherwise, he seems to be in great health. We hope you can find room in your heart and home for this big ball of love!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, early Bulldogs were used in the bloody sport of bull bating. Some of these dogs emigrated with their masters from England to America, where they were developed into a separate breed. The English Bulldog was bred down in size and his personality was softened, but he still retains the determination of his ancestors. Although his appearance can be somewhat intimidating, it is among the gentlest of dogs. It is described as a very affectionate and dependable animal, gentle with children, but known for its courage and its excellent guarding abilities. Bullheaded and determined, this breed can be very persistent. They do not give up easily. This breed tends to snore loudly, make a mess while eating, and slobber a lot. Because of the face shape, breathing problems can develop. The English bulldog needs an owner who will remind the dog of its place; bulldogs that are allowed to "take over" will display guarding behaviors: toys, food, even the household furniture. They need little exercise besides a daily walk. The bulldog loves human attention and adores being with his family. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
