Description: Lilo is a fuzzy golden brown retriever mix. We have been told that she is good with cats and children and know first-hand that she is great with other dogs. She took about 3 days to get used to the heavy breathing and snorting of her current playmate but makes friends quickly. She loves to cuddle up in your lap but learns quickly where she can and cannot go (not on the couch). She’s currently being clicker trained and catches on to things quickly. On top of that she’s housebroken and quite the attentive watchdog. It took her about 2 days to learn the ‘normal’ sounds of the house but now is quick to point out when there is a sound that doesn’t seem right. She’s very playful during play time but is content lying at your feet when the family is watching TV. She’s an all-around good dog and deserving of a good home. If you have one she’d be a perfect match.
Update: Well, Lilo was adopted and returned. Here owners think she is a great dog but that she needs to go to a home experienced in dogs, and they are not. Here is there insight on our girl: "She’s a great dog with tons of personality and energy but a little bit too much for our cat who’s used to the run of the house. Lilo pretty much ignores the cat but the cat doesn’t ignore Lilo. Lilo loves to play and gets excited easily and when she gets excited she gets snappy. A snappy puppy who weighs 40lbs and an ornery cat are not a good mix unfortunately.
When we first brought Lilo home we were very impressed how easily she made herself at home and settled into a routine with no accidents whatsoever. After her evening walk she loves to sit at your feet (and lick them) while watching TV and when she roles over for a belly rub (her favorite) you can’t help but love her. BUT like I said she’s full of energy quite snappy and gets over-excited so she is really not suited to first time dog owners. She’ll make a great dog for an experienced dog owner without an aggressive cat in the house.
So, here's what we think: Lilo is a great dog who has to go to a home that will make sure she knows who is running the show. Dog experience is a must.
