Description: This is Hoonah, a beautiful brown tabby. One Wednesday night we came home from church to find him lounging on our front porch. We didn't think too much of it, figuring he'd head home soon. He, however, had different plans. He sat in our livingroom window meowing pitiously at us. At 9:30 my husband went out to give him water, but that wasn't what he wanted - he wanted in. When we went to bed, he was still there. He then sat in the kitchen window, meowing all through the night, singing in harmony with Sparky, the coonhound we were fostering ~ Hoonah would meow, Sparky would wimper, and my husband would groan. Yeah, that was a peaceful night. When Glenn got up to shower the next morning, the cat ran around to the bathroom window and talked to him from there. I went out later to give him some food but instead of eating, he jumped down and started rubbing up against my dog, Ralph! Needless to say, this had to be an indoor cat who was lost! We kept expecting him to leave, especially in the extreme heat we were having, but no, he spent all of his time on our back deck playing with our cat through the slider. After a week Judy took him to her vet to be tested. Turned out he was already neutered and in good health. We gave him his shots and took him into our home where he is doing great. Hoonah gets along very well with everyone. He really likes dogs and cats, will jump up into your lap (a real change for us - our cat, Baranof, will only sit next to us), and is intrigued by our parakeets. He is a really pretty cat, a brown tabby with dark stripes, white and orange-tinged markings and socks. His eyes, nose and mouth look like someone outlined them in eyeliner - really striking! His round eyes are more of a pale green than yellow and always thrown wide open ~ again, we contrast this with Baranof who prefers to sport the veiled-eyed cat look. Hoonah was obviously well cared for and socialized. We think his family moved away and dropped him off in our neighborhood since he has made no attempt to "go home." He will be an easy addition to any home! Oh, and his name ~ well, we name all of our pets after places we used to go when we lived in Alaska. Hoonah is a small native fishing village set on an island in the Southeast Passage, self-sufficient like this cat! So if you've always wanted to visit Alaska, here's a chance to have a bit of the Great Land! Ha!
