Description:

Shelby was surrendered, along with her senior pups, Amber and Munchie, when her owner became too sick to care for them. Shelby is housetrained and walks well on a leash. She is crate trained and sleeps through the night with her daughter, Amber.
They are extremely bonded and when they were recently separated for a night, Amber was very distraught .

They have gotten along with all of the dogs in their foster home, ranging from 5 to 60 pounds.  Amber can be protective of her Mama Shelby if she thinks she is "in danger."      They love to hunt for lizards outside but overheat quickly.      She listens well and is a happy girl.     They are beggars and we do keep them out of the room or in a pen at mealtime.    At night they sleep in an x-pen together, with lots of bedding, but they have also slept in a large crate together at night.   They can be quite loud when they feel they are being ignored or if they see something interesting.      A single family home would be best for this reason.

Dachshunds do   best in a one-story house as they aren’t designed to run up and down stairs, and constant climbing could eventually lead to spinal injuries which are common to Doxies. Owners  should also discourage jumping up/down from furniture which can also lead to spinal injuries. Many Doxie owners place a doggie stool or ramp near furniture for their buddy to climb up and down safely.
