Description:
Sweet Contessa came to us from a kill shelter along with her eight puppies. What a good momma she was. All those babies and she never missed a beat. Contessa is really the best and is so anxious to have her own family to love and love on her.

11/21 Volunteer Update:
I remember seeing Contessa coming out of the van from the kill shelter. She was very scared and depressed, not eating the first few days. After about a week or so she started to remember me and her eyes would almost light up when she saw me.
What a long way she has come from then to now. She has no problem finishing her food and is excited to see and go anywhere with anyone. She is crate-trained and I believe housetrained as well ~ she does not mess anything up, not even her toys. I find this wonderful as my dogs destroy every toy I give them!!!
I've been working on leash manners with her and she is getting the hang of it. Contessa still needs a reminder now and then where she should be but for the most part she walks like a Princess. I took her today to go get lunch with me and she happily jumped in the car to go for an adventure. She laid silently in the back seat until I pulled into the drive through ~ when she heard the lady's voice, she perked up to see who was talking then decided that no one was really there. What an angel she was once I got my food; not an ounce of begging from her! I could not help myself ~ after I was done I fed her some food and she was as gentle as could be, taking it from my hand.
Contessa would be wonderful in a home where she would be the only dog. She does get along with some dogs and really likes young puppies, as well as calmer submissive males.

1/14 Foster Update:
Contessa is a very happy dog, always wagging her tail, happy to be in a home with eleven year old girls! She rides well in the car and did great in the car line at school, very alert with her ears perked up. When a friend came over to talk to me through the open windwo, Contessa tried to get in my lap to check him out without barking, then went back to her seat, content that all was well. Later on she was a bit hesitant about getting in a golf cart, but when she did, she did great, not even barking at a Boxer that we passed. She walks well on a leash, did a little squirrel and bird chasing, ever alert. She played ball outside with may girls and by 7:30 was tuckered out. We set up the crate with pillows and a blanket, and at 8pm she put herself to bed with the crate door open. No barking in the night. Contessa seems to be a very calm dog with a good temperment and wagging tail. All she wants is a lot of love.

1/19 Foster Update:
We have fosted Contessa for 6 days she is ready for a family. She is a GEM.

She need's a fenced in back yard loves the out door's and soaking up the sun. She is alway's by the back door looking to go outside.

It is so rare to find such a beautiful jet black glossy coat that just shinnes and she stand's out in the
crowd.

Great for stay at home MOM, or work from home will follow you every where. Do well with soft spoken Male.
She does get attached so we have the whole family feeding her.

She loves her toy's, playing and running.

Very calm excellent temperment, gentle nature want's to be included in the family, and great with kids.

Gives lot of kisses, and every time you look or speak to her she is happy and wagging her tail looking to give you love.

She is fine without her crate.
