MonaLisa and her litter of puppies were rescued from Seminole County Animal Control. When MonaLisa gave birth to her four puppies, the administrator, Mary Beth, called Judy and asked her to take them. She couldn't bear the thought of that little family being in her shelter and possibly being put to sleep.

MonaLisa has proven to be a wonderful dog. She is a great mommy, taking good care of her babies but letting others play with them. And she is so playful herself! She is always happy to chase around with you. She is really amazing. We anticipate that she will be ready for her own home by the end of August.

August 3rd Foster Update:

"MonaLisa is a great dog! She loves tennis balls and already shows a lot of love for fetch. She loves to run, and will need an active family, but does settle down in the house. She is very social, and gets along with other dogs well. I think she's a little tired of having puppies jump on her, so she's getting lots of grown-up-dog time too."

September 17 Foster Update:

"MonaLisa is a wonderful dog who is perfect for an active family. Mona --as we call her-- is the most responsible dog we've ever fostered. When we're watching TV in the living room, she always sits between us and the door so she keep an eye on the door. If she hears a strange noise outside, she'll give a few barks to let you know (but will stop as soon you tell her so). When playing with us, she's very careful not to let her teeth touch our skin. She readily goes into her crate without a problem. And, she made an excellent mother (which is important when searching for a spouse, but is also great to see in a dog).

Mona is very loving and enjoys following us around the house as we go about our chores. She loves to be with her owners.
Mona is also great with other dogs. We took her to the dog park, and she got along perfectly with all the other dogs and people. She gets along well with our other foster dog Wally, and they often play together (see the video below).

Mona is a wonderful dog who will bring a lot of care and love to her future family."

MORE ABOUT BOXERS:

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Boxer's ancestors were two German mastiff type dogs, the Bullenbeiszer and the Barenbeiszer. They were later crossed with the powerful ancestors of the Mastiff and Bulldog. Early on, these dogs were prized for hunting, bull baiting, and for pulling carts. A bit farther down the family tree, Boxer ancestors became cattle dogs, and were used to round up livestock. They were also popular circus and theater dogs because they learned tricks so easily. Breeding was rather indiscriminate until the first Boxer studbook was started in 1904, stabilizing the breed standard. In spite of its German origins, "Boxer" is an English name that suitably describes the dog's punchy fighting style. Though early Boxers may have been quite ferocious, the breed today is a very gentle, loving family companion. Some of the Boxer's talents are watchdogging, guarding, police work, military work, search & rescue, competitive obedience, schutzhund and performing tricks.

The Boxer is happy, high-spirited, playful, curious and energetic. Highly intelligent, eager and quick to learn, but can be stubborn and sneaky. The Boxer is a good dog for competitive obedience. Constantly on the move, bonding very closely with the family. Loyal and affectionate, Boxers are known for the way they get along so well with children. A well brought-up and properly socialized Boxer will also get along with his own kind and other household pets. However one Boxer owner reported; their Boxer is best friends with their many barn cats and second dog, but will chase and eat
