M came to us from Lake County when his time was up. He is so sweet and energetic. He loves to play with other dogs and is very outgoing. He has lots of energy so someone who wants a playmate for another dog or a running buddy would be very happy with M.

Foster Update:  M has been fantastic! He's sweet, loving, and always right beside you when you need him! I've been able to take him on a few runs, he does have to take a couple breaks and rest in the shade every now and then. For the first couple days I let him check out my yard on a leash and then once it was time I was able to let him run around after a tennis ball. Last Saturday after work I took him to a cook out. There was plenty of people who thought he was an amazing dog! There was another dog there, she was fairly old and he played well with her. For the first hour or so I kept him on the leash so he could check out his surroundings and become familiar with the place, then I let him off and he did great. That day we bought him a frisbee which we took to the cook out for him to play with.  However we are still working on breaking some habits. He does like to nip at you, sometimes in the face so we've been working on that. We are also still working on housebreaking him. He's had about 4 accidents in the house, luckily it wasn't anything that required a doggie bag. We decided to take up our rugs until we were confident he was house trained. He'll chew on about anything, so we've bought him a doggie bone to chew on, the previous one we bought he ate within two days (he loved it) so this time we bought him a longer lasting Nylabone. He likes the other one better.  He's so sweet and is the kinda dog who will lay in bed with you, give you good morning kisses, and be your best friend. A wonderful dog for the family!

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
