Hailey was found as a stray. This poor girl is looking for a home in her senior years. She is so sweet and just loves all people and other dogs. She seems 100% housebroken and is a joy to be around.

Foster Update:  Hailey is the sweetest loving girl. She likes to sit in your lap and likes to be petted. Hailey has the most beautiful markings. She is really a beautiful dog. She is very quiet and takes lots of naps during the day. When you call her she comes wagging her tail. She likes to walk around the yard with our Lab and look for lizards. I’m sure our dog will have her chasing squirrels any day now. Hailey sleeps on a dog bed on my side of the bed but I know she would like to sleep on the bed with me. This sweet girl is very low maintenance. She would make a wonderful companion dog for someone who would like unconditional love from a beautiful lovely dog.

Foster Update:  We took Hailey to our daughter's house and she was great with our grandchildren ages 10 and 8.  Our grandchildren have been taught to respect animals and always be gentle and wait for the dog to come to you.  That being said, Hailey had a wonderful time.  She loved being with the children and my daughters 4 dogs, 1 being a puppy.  Our Judy doesn’t know how long Hailey had been out on her own before someone brought her to PRBJ but Hailey is hesitant to go out at night in the yard to go to the bathroom. New Years Eve was terrible for her.  There were a lot of fireworks and Hailey was terrified to go outside.  It took us five times with both of us taking her outside on her leash before she would go to the bathroom. When we went to bed Hailey came into bed with us. So besides us in the bed and our 83lb lab Renegade Blue we now have 57lb Hailey.  We are very cozy.  The important thing is that Hailey feels protected and that’s what is important.  I look into her eyes and I wish she could talk to me.  Hailey and Renegade are starting to play in the house and having lots of fun.  Bumping into furniture and taking everything out of their toy box.

Foster Update:  We have had Hailey almost two months and she is starting to feel this is home. Hailey brings me toys to throw to her.  She even throws toys in the air and plays with them.  She likes to take walks and walks well on a leash.  She also likes to ride in the car.  I think she just wants to go wherever we go.  We have never crated Hailey when we have gone out and she has never messed in the house.  Hailey has a good appetite, we feed her 2x a day 1 cup of Iam’s dog food in the green bag w/a little water.  When she goes out for the last time at night around 10:30pm she gets a small biscuit.  Hailey knows sit and shake and we are working on other commands with her.  Hailey is shy when meeting new people but within 20 min. warms up.  We don’t have any cats so I don’t know if Hailey likes them - but I do know she doesn’t like birds.  I took her to the vets to get her rabies shot and the vet had birds in her waiting room and Hailey went nuts.  Hailey is a wonderful dog who loves to be with her people, lay in your lap, sleep with you at night, go for walks, likes to give and receive kisses and be petted, ride in the car.  If this sounds like something that fits into your schedule then this sweet dog is for you.

Hailey qualifies for our Senior for Seniors program!  If adopted by a senior (55+) her adoption fee is $50.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the English Coonhound is also known as the Redtick Coonhound. In 1905 the English Coonhound was first registered by UKC under the name of English Fox & Coonhound. Back then, they were used for fox hunting much more than they are today. The name of the breed has since been shortened, and several distinct breed lines have been split off, including the Bluetick hound and the Treeing Walker coonhound. English Coonhounds are energetic, intelligent and active. Their great senses make them excellent hunters. This breed is an extremely fast, hot-trailing competitive type dog. Very devoted to its family, it makes a good companion dog. It does well living indoors and plays a fine guardian to his family and home. They are usually best with older considerate children, but can also do well with younger ones. Some can be a bit dog-aggressive and reserved with strangers. Socialize this breed well while still young. Do not let this breed off the leash in an unfenced area, as they may take off after an interesting scent. They have a strong instinct to tree animals. High-strung but loving and eager to please their owners. They have an average life expectancy of 11-12 years.
