About Mr. Beautiful:

  • Needs an ACTIVE and structured home. He knows when it's time to go out and when it's time to go to sleep. Usually around 11, he goes and lays down in his crate because that is his bed.
  • Housebroken and will go and sit by the front door when he needs to go outside.
  • Crate trained and will go in the crate at night to sleep.  Also is used to being crated during the day time while his foster is at work.
  • Gets along with all dogs and would do very well in a home with another dog for a playmate!  He will submit if you have a dominant dog.
  • Barks at cats but keeps his distance -- not sure how he is with cats.
  • Would do well in a home with older, bigger children.  He is probably too large and energetic for a home with small children.
  • Knows Sit, Lay Down, and Shake!
  • Loves to carry something in his mouth on our walks. Usually it's a bone, but sometimes he'll grab his rope too. If he doesn't remember to grab something on the way out the door, he finds a stick on the way and carries it.
  • Still mouths while playing but he is getting better with this.
  • Jumps up on people when they come into the home, but is getting better with the use of a water spray bottle for training.  He submits as soon as you point it at him!  While out on walks if he sees people, he will sit for them to pet him.
  • Loves to go bobbing for ice! It is the cutest thing. Put ice cubes in his water bowl and he will dip his nose in trying to get them out.
  • Loves to roll around in the grass and enjoys watching nature.
  • LOVES to chew! He has a wonderful collection of bones and ropes. No rubber toys...those are too easy! He only chews his own toys and does not chew household items.
  • Loves toys and is a puppy at heart. He dives into the toy box at the adoption events and loves searching for the best one!
  • Wonderful at dog parks. He gets along great with all the dogs, even small ones! He is very patient and can pick up on things easily. If a dog doesn't seem interested, he understands and goes off to meet some others. He is a social butterfly!
  • Loves car rides! He knows which car is mine and always goes up to it and sits waiting for me to open it for him. He doesn't like to stick his head out the window. He would prefer to sit in the middle back with the cold air blowing on him. He will lick your ear while your driving and then lay down and nap if it's a long drive.
  • Adapts very well to new places and new people.
  • Loves to swim. Give him a kiddie pool and he will swim around and cool off in the heat of the Florida summer.
  • Loves to cuddle!  He will curl up in your lap like a puppy and fall asleep in your arms! He loves to be close to you and keep you company. Complete love bug.
  • Loves exploring new places. He prefers walks and going to dog parks over just going in a backyard. However, I have caught him exploring the backyard with my other dogs. It is very entertaining to watch them when they don't know we are watching.

From DogBreedInfo.com, the American Staffordshire Terrier is an intelligent, happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog. Gentle and loving towards people. Good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet. It is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, this dog wants nothing more then to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of life. Over the past 50 years, careful breeding has produced this friendly, trustworthy, dog who is an especially good dog for children. Courageous and a persistent fighter if provoked. Highly protective of his owners and the owner's property, it will fight an enemy to the death if the enemy traps the dog in a corner and threatens its loved ones. This breed has a very high tolerance for pain. Some Staffs may be dog aggressive. Socialize very thoroughly when young to curve any dog aggressive tendencies. This breed can be difficult to housebreak.  It has given outstanding results as a guardian of property, but is at the same time esteemed as a companion dog. When properly trained and socialized, the Staff makes a great family companion. This breed is not for the passive owner who does not understand that all dogs have an instinct to have a pack order. They need a firm, confident, consistent owner who understands how to display the proper leadership. The objective in training this dog is to achieve a pack leader status. It is a natural instinct for a dog to have an order in their pack. When we humans live with dogs, we become their pack. The entire pack cooperates under a single leader. Lines are clearly defined. You and all other humans MUST be higher up in the order than the dog. That is the only way your relationship can be a success.
