We'll let the wonderful lady who rescued Fiona tell you her story:

We found Fiona wandering in our back yard the night before a hard freeze was expected to come through Central Florida. She looked weak and malnourished. She clearly wasn’t being cared for by anyone, and we were concerned that she’d freeze to death if left outside in the cold. My daughter and I brought out some food and water for her and, with some gentle coaxing, I was able to pick her up and bring her inside our warm house. Once inside, we noticed that she smelled very bad, her fur was filthy, and she was covered with fleas. My daughter immediately took her to the bathroom to give her a bath. After jumping out of the bathtub several times during her bath, she was finally flea-free and smelling sweet. We then clipped her very long claws and put her in the nice warm crate, lined with a blanket and plenty of food and water. Once she was clean, we noticed how beautiful she was, and we wanted to give her a beautiful name befitting a princess.

We weren’t really sure what to do next since this was the first cat we rescued. We had adopted our first kitten from PRBJ about three months earlier, Amos (who we now call Ava), so I contacted them the next morning for some assistance. We weren’t sure that we wanted to adapt another cat so soon after getting Ava, but we wanted to make sure she Fiona was healthy and provide her with a loving home until she could find a permanent home. We quarantined Fiona to my daughter’s room as a precaution, and she was quite content to stay in there and lie on my daughter’s bed all day and curl up next to her at night. We also set out a litter box just for her, and she picked that up immediately.

Jackie with PRBJ replied to my email, and she was awesome! She told us we could bring Fiona in to have her checked out and make sure she didn’t have anything that could be passed on to Ava. She tested clean for any feline diseases, and we also found out that she was already spayed. Jackie said that it looked like she might have been a “throwaway” because someone obviously spent the money to spay her, yet she was obviously neglected.

1.24.10 Update: Fiona is adjusting wonderfully to living in an indoor environment. She loves to play with Ava (aka Amos), and is modeling her actions more and more each day. She’s still somewhat timid, and appears a bit anxious around people she doesn’t know, but once she knows you’re not a threat, she’s very sweet. She was afraid of our dog, Sadie, in the beginning, but she’s now becoming a bit more relaxed around her. I get the impression that she may have been abused or just had to fend for herself from a very young age, so we’re giving her plenty of love and attention to help her feel safe and secure.

We also found that she’s quite agile, and can jump from the floor to kitchen countertops and dressers with no assistance. She also loves to cat wrestle with Ava in the bathtub. Unfortunately for us, their favorite time to do this is the middle of the night when we’re sleeping! Her favorite place to hang out is in the kitchen chair next to the window where she can sun herself. She also LOVES being brushed!
