Beau had been living with a couple when their health issues made it difficult to care for him.  A lady they knew took him for a week; however, as Beau is a strong dog to walk on leash and is a flight risk when off leash, she did not feel comfortable caring for him. He almost caused her to fall a few times while walking him and he got away from her once and she had to chase him all over her gated community.
Beau loves to go for walks and will need someone that can keep up with him. It seems that he will only do his business while on walks, not while out in the yard.

He also loves going for car rides and stopping for a pup cup. He is house trained and does well with dogs his size. He had not been exposed to children or cats, but one of the employees from PRBJ took him home for the day where he did fine with the dog-friendly cats and the kids. He had no interest in the cats; however, these cats share a home with several dogs. Normally, Westies like to chase so if a cat has not been exposed to dogs we are not sure if he would chase or not. The kids were 9 & 6 and again they are used to being with lots of animals of their own and with fostering, so Beau did well with them.

Beau's ideal home would be with an active family that will have time and energy to take him for his walks. Also he would need a person that could be home with him most of the day....someone that works from home would be great for him! He will bark and scream when he cannot find his people. Beau was not crate trained as he had access to the entire house.

He will cry and alert you it's time to go for the walk and he's quick to do his business. In a backyard he will cry to come in and never do his business because he wants to be with his humans and go for a walk to do it.

GROOMING: a visit to the groomer every 4 to 6 weeks will work just fine. Daily brushing and combing are important. Because the Westie has a hard coat, bathing too often can do more harm than good
