Maira is "wise" in the Native American Tupi language. She got her name because she seems to looking at you and thinking.

Maira still continues to be the patient and wise kitten.  She wants your attention as much as her siblings but will sit there and wait until everyone else is "done".  And, because of that, it makes me want to make sure that Maira gets her share.

03.30.09 Foster Update:
Maira is very cute. We call her and her sister "twins" (yet the markings on their faces are distinctive). Maira tends to be a bit more reserved than the others. She will sit there and watch what's happening. I think she is just "patient" with having three active siblings running around. She waits to get her own affection...then will jump into the group activity.

04.05.09 Foster Update:
I've introduced the Shima (mama's name) kitties to dogs. They are great with them. We're talking 45-65 lb dogs!

Sometimes I just lay on the floor and let all four of the kittens crawl around on me - which they love to do. It's kind of like getting a massage. So, if you like massages you might want to consider adopting all four kittens!

04.17.09 Foster Update:  These kitties are such a joy!  They really are lovers...and all have their own little wants and needs...but mainly just want your attention once they are through playing with their siblings.

Maira is probably the least assertive.  She's just a little girl that's looking to be noticed amongst all the craziness of her brother and sisters!

I noticed that Maira and her sister, Yazhi, have these real neat markings on the side of their faces.  While their mama was a Calico, Daddy must have had some tiger-stripe in him.  They each have these burnt orange tiger-stripe markings running from their eyes to the side of their face...almost like orange mascara lines!  These markings seem to be surfacing more as they get older.

05.29.09 Foster Update:  Maira continues to be just so sweet.  Everyone loves Maira.  She just wants to be with me whereever I am.

I think what amazes me about these four is how much they continue to love each other.  They would love to do nothing than to lay all over each other (unless, of course, they are on my lap).  I came home from work today to them.  They could have all had their own room but, nope, they are all on the same pillow snuggled up together.

06.04.09 Foster Update:
Maira is a "coo-er".  She makes this sweet little sound all of the time.  She also is a nibbler.  She will nibble on my finger if she wants more attention from me.  You think I'm kidding??  Maira is very happy to just sit on your lap if you will let her.

07.03.08 Foster Update:  While all of these siblings are very sweet, Maira continues to be the on that will kind of "wait her turn" for the affection.  She just looks longingly at me as though to say, "Don't forget about me!"  She also just walks around making little cooing noises.  I think that is so cute!    They all seem to have their own little language.

Maira is just like her siblings in that she wants to be on your lap...just content to sit there and purr.  That is the only problem is that I don't have four laps for them to lay on and four sets of hands with which to pet them!  Everyday they look at me in wonder about when they are going to get their forever home.  I have no idea why these four beautiful kittens are still available.  They are beautiful physically and their personalities match the physical beauty.

Maira still likes to carry her toys (or a dog toy) around in her mouth.  A lot of times, the toys are bigger than she is!  I just think that is so funny - and cute!

Now, I have to tell you, the first time someone told me a we had gotten in a Tortoise
