Pookie’s will be hosting its’ 4th annual fundraiser and adoption day to benefit local non-profit animal rescue groups on January 28th, 2012. Animals being abandoned and turned in to local shelters continue to be at an all-time high due to current economic conditions and this event seeks to increase awareness and promote adoption of homeless pets. Last year’s event featured 21 breed specific and other local rescue groups with over 40 dogs and cats getting forever homes. The event raised over $8,500 that was distributed equally to the participating rescues. This year’s event will showcase 30 rescue groups with their adoptable dogs and cats. We are excited to announce that we will be moving the event to Lake Lily Park and the Maitland Civic Center this year due to the growth of the event over the past three years. The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. It is a fun, festival type atmosphere and proceeds from raffled gift baskets and grab bags and donations will be distributed to the participating rescue groups. Various pet services including pet trainers, pet sitters, pet communicators, pet boarding and veterinary services will be on site to provide information. Music/entertainment options for adults and children. Natural foods and supplements company representatives will also be available to share educational information on pet nutrition and several will raffle off a free year of dog and/or cat food. If you have attended this event in the past, you know how many great raffle items we get and all for a great cause!

"Pets for Vets is an event designed to promote the use of animals to de-stress UCF’s student veterans’ lives, highlight the sources available to them and help them adjust to civilian and college life while promoting the adoption of rescued animals from the shelter. " Although aimed at veterans, all students will be allowed to walk, pet and interact with the dogs.

On Saturday, MAY 5, 2012, MERCEDES-BENZ OF ORLANDO located on 17-92 in Maitland, Florida will be the scene of the JOCKEYS, JULEPS AND JAZZ Derby Celebration. Featured entertainment will be Jazzway Express starring Miss Jackie Jones, J-Groove and guitarist Casey Picou and jazz artist Randall Smith. Beverage proceeds benefit Pet Rescue by Judy.From 3:30pm to 7:30pm, friends from Mercedes-Benz of Orlando and members of the Maitland Chamber of Commerce will gather together to watch the running of the 138th Kentucky Derby in the RENT-A-CENTER Derby Viewing Area while enjoying great food and FOUR ROSES Mint Juleps. Single tickets at priced at $25.00 per person in advance or $285.00 for a table of 8 guests. Table fee includes: VIP table with food, souvenir cups from the Derby Festival, Terroir Wines Winner Circle champagne toast in the new Mercedes-Benz of Orlando showroom after race. Each table will have a Floral Designer Competition centerpiece. Millenia Catering and area restaurants and will be serving Derby delights on the Smart Car lot from 4pm until 6pm. Complimentary FOUR ROSES Bourbon Mint Juleps will be served as guests arrive on the Red Carpet The cash bar will feature wine, beer & specialty cocktails along with complimentary water. Jazz entertainment will take place throughout the day as guests mingle about the Triple Crown Paddock featuring silent auction tables and a retired thoroughbred racehorse owned by Ann Payne from Sanford. A local florist will create the wreath of flowers worn by “Frenchie” the horse during the souvenir photo session from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
Ladies are encouraged to get creative and wear their most decadent hat or fascinator. Members from the Maitland Chamber will judge the hat contest. Prize sponsors include Maitland Jewelers and Crown Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront and the use of a new Mercedes-Benz for the weekend. Winners of the Most Unusual Hat, Prettiest Hat and Peoples Choice will all qualify for the beach get-a-way. The Orlando Style Magazine Hat Contest winners will be announced at 6pm along with the winner of Best of Show in the Floral Competition. Floral winner receives a weekend at the Holiday Inn Ft. Myers Beach and the use of a new Smart Car for the trip.
This event is all about helping to promote area businesses and raise money for the Maitland Chamber of Commerce. The general public may only attend the event with an advance ticket purchase. Derby bets will be made at the Jai-Alai Fronton for guests until 6pm that evening.
The tickets and reserved tables go on sale April 2nd on-line at OrlandoEventsUnlimited.com or can be purchased at the Maitland Chamber Office until April 27th, 2012. WLOQ 102.5FM will be giving away tickets on air starting April 16th. Beverage proceeds benefit Pet Rescue by Judy.

The grand opening events include model tours, lots of kids activities, food trucks, DJ, prizes, local retailers from the community showcasing their businesses, a ribbon cutting ceremony with city officials and more.
