Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Ranger

Ranger is fitting in beautifully! He was a little hesitant at first about getting on the couch or coming to bed with me, but once he knew it was okay he settled right in. Last night I just asked if he was ready to go to bed and he ran in, hopped up on the bed, and waited for me to join him.

He is also enjoying walks and going out in the yard, particularly today with the cooler weather. Both Ranger and my other dog, Foxy, were racing each other in circles. Ranger even adjusted his speed so Foxy could keep up.

The first day he was eating but not finishing his meals, but now with a little canned food mixed in with his regular dry food he is cleaning his bowl every time.

Ranger

Colleen,

It has been a little while since I sent an update. Shortly after I brought “Ranger” home I noticed he really didn’t care one way or the other about the name Ranger. He has been going by “Alfie” ever since and it seems to fit his sweet personality better. Would you please make sure your records are updated to show his current name?

Attached are some recent photos of Alfie, including watching out the window with his sister Foxy and playing at the dog park. Weather permitting, we usually go to the dog park 3-4 times a week and he has his favorite playmates for running/chasing and others for play wrestling.

Alfie has enjoyed interacting with the people at the dog park so much, especially children, that I decided to pursue getting him involved in therapy dog activities. Over the last few months we completed a behavior and handling test as well as three observations at a local assisted living facility and nursing home for Alfie and I to become a registered therapy dog/handler team through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Alfie has been really enjoying these activities and loves having people pet and hug him. In another week or two we should receive our final membership approval and then will also be able to participate in our local library’s Read To A Dog program for young children and begin regular visits to local assisted living facilities.

Ranger

Alfie and I are members of the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and also our local Space Coaster Therapy Dogs chapter. He goes with me to a local library once a month for a program where beginning readers can read to dogs. We've been doing this for a couple years now and also occasionally visit assisted living facilities. Alfie loves the extra attention!

He is also loving our new house and likes to lounge in the patio in the mornings to supervise construction in the rest of the neighborhood. His 16-yr-old "sister" still follows his lead for when it is time for food, outside, walks, etc.
