Cleopatra ~ DECLAWED
For some, the decision to add a family pet to a household is a quick and
easy one. For my boyfriend and I, it was a decision we spent a lot of time
on. The choices for a desperate pet in need of a good home were
endless—we
were shocked to hear that over 20,000 homeless pets were euthanized each
year in Orange County alone. Through online searches, we found Pet Rescue
By
Judy and our Cleopatra. We were deeply touched by Cleo's story of being
passed from home to home, inhumanly declawed as an adult cat and given-up
for adoption twice.
Our first meeting with Cleo on the day of her adoption, 2/6/08, was nothing
short of perfection. I had prepared myself for the worst, expecting a
timid,
frightened animal. Instead, she was "talking," purring, crawling and
rubbing
all over me—not what you would expect from a traumatized cat. I was told
she
was doing so well after all of her adventures thanks to the recent time
spent with her PRBJ foster family.
Today Cleopatra, fondly known as Cleo, spends her days spying on passing
traffic from our windows, catnapping in the sun, "hunting" her mouse toys
and "talking" with her new mom and dad.
I would like to thank PRBJ volunteer, Janet, and foster mom, Melissa, for
making it possible for Cleo to become part of our new little family. Also,
thank you to Judy and everyone else at PRBJ, who help find homes for
thousands of animals in need of rescue and love.
Best Regards,
Jillian & Peter
