Fozzie the Bull Terrier
Fozzie the Bull Terrier

As you know, PRBJ had Fozzie's leg x-rayed back in July while I was fostering her, which only showed some arthritis/DJD. Her hock had begun to swell some recently, so we took her back to the vet just to be sure nothing else was wrong. Her x-ray on Monday showed major bone deterioration and the vet suggested we go to a specialist. The specialist today looked at the x-ray and said it was likely cancerous and she would probably need her leg amputated, which I thought would be fine since she only uses 3 legs anyway, but they wanted to x-ray her chest beforehand just to make sure it hadn't spread. Unfortunately her chest x-ray showed that she has pretty aggressive cancer that has metastasized in her lungs, and she is well beyond the point of surgery. She is beginning chemotherapy pills but the vet does not expect her to live another 6 months. This is all so shocking because she does not appear to be sick at all. And it is utterly heartbreaking news for my fiance and I, because Fozzie has been such a blessing in our lives. When I picked her up from your shelter to foster her back in June, she was too depressed at the time to even go for a walk with me. But since then, I have watched her blossom into quite literally the happiest and most friendly dog I've ever seen. She is a joy in every sense of the word, and she is absolutely one-of-a-kind. It's so unfair that it took her so many years and so much instability before finally finding a loving forever home with us, and now she's being robbed of it. I just can't believe that she will be leaving us after such a short time. I'm sorry for the rambling message, I just wanted to thank PRBJ for bringing her into our lives, and let you all know how much we love her and how much we will miss her. We have already spoiled her rotten since the day I picked her up, but we will be doing everything we can to ensure that she is comfortable and happy until it is her time to go. I can't even imagine my life without her, but I'm so thankful that for the time I have gotten to spend with her. Thank you again. -Katie
