Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Sandy the Norwich Retriever
Sandy the Norwich Retriever

Dear Judy and everyone, My family and I adopted Sandy July 11th, 2009. We call her Honey now (she is soo sweet!). We actually ran into her foster Mom Skye and Skye's sister Sunday at our vet a few days later, and they were so happy to see her. She is just so lovable and has such a wonderful personality. I am so grateful to all of you for saving her. I feel like she was meant to be mine - I am already completely in love with her! She is so happy, she loves squeaky toys and talks all of the time. Today we took her to the dog beach, she didn't really want to swim but was so happy to see other dogs. She is great with our kitten, and very tolerant of our two grouchy older dogs! I don't know if she was taught commands but she already knows how to sit, stay, and come! We are so happy to include Honey in our family! ~ The Butler Family

Sam the Black Lab Puppy

Our little Sam has turned 1 year and is truly a beautiful happy boy. He has learned all of his manners and is very obedient when the moon and stars align – haha. Honestly, he is a very good boy but is just a puppy who gets excited over the littlest things. For his birthday his papa decided he needed a brother/playmate so I came home to Rex who is one month older than Sam. Rex is also a rescue who spent most of his life in a kennel on the West Coast but is getting acclimated to us and coming out of his shell to be part of our pack. Sam loves his older brother and let me just say that poor Rex has the cleanest ears in town because they are constantly being licked. The boys love to play together which is great because Sam only has one level of energy which is “high”. We plan on getting both boys DNA tested, I’m confident Sam has grizzly-bear in him because his paws are huge. At his last weigh-in he weighed 77 lbs. but if he has to grow into those paws he could get up into the 300’s. The boys love to go to the ocean to romp in the water and roll in the sand. Rex has been our first swimmer and Sam is still deciding. Right now that back end sinks and he flounders around but he’ll get it and swim like a fish. Until then he can play in the sand and dig with those huge paws, nothing like being able to dig to China in 2 seconds flat. Our pack is happy and secure and we couldn’t be happier. Thank you again for this big o’boy. Doreen Sanders

Simon the Orphan Puppy
Simon the Orphan Puppy

Hi Judy and all Staff at your wonderful Pet Rescue, I just wanted to pass along a note of success about our adopted sweet, precious Simon, the orphaned dog, thought to be Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix (short hair). Simon was one of the eight little orphans found two days after Christmas, 2008 and brought to you to receive nurturing and the abundance of love and wellness you and your staff gave them until my husband and I called to say we would like to adopt Simon. Simon is such an energetic, cute, loving and sweet little companion that either of us could possibly ask for. My husband and I are both retired and we love to take Simon on evening walks and car rides with us and he loves to meet other dogs and children, families, etc. just to wag his ever-wagging tail and give a little Simon kiss. Everyone in our family loves him and he has adapted so well. My three year old grandson and Simon play so well together for hours on end. Sometimes I think Simon believes he IS human. We just wanted to let you know that we love Simon so much. We don't think he is as much Chihuahua Pomeranian mix as first thought, because he is getting so tall (already 17" tall and he weighs 16 1/2 lbs) at 6 mos. and is still growing, I'm sure - we love that he's getting big though, because he is such fun to play with and is proving to be just perfect in every way for us. Thank you very, very much for allowing us to adopt this new member of our family and we will stop in to see you from time to time to say hi. Judy, Randy and Simon R.

Storm the Lonely Lab Puppy
Storm the Lonely Lab Puppy

Hello! Storm is an absolute delight, her new name is Maggie and it fits her perfectly. She is so full of life and has been the best puppy that I have ever owned. Maggie has never had any accidents in the house, not even one since I adopted her at 3 months old!!! She is learning commands very quickly and is growing even faster. She still tries to get into the shower with me every morning and is continually eating the woodchips around the yard, but I can't thank Kathy enough for all of the training and teaching that she showed Maggie. She is such a joy and everyone that meets her falls in love with her. At the local dog park, she is the star and she is so friendly with all the other dogs and their owners. All of her dog toys that Kathy sent her home with are still fine and she sleeps with the little shamu at night. Thank you again and I will send you more pictures and updates as she grows! As far as adopting another dog, I have decided that Maggie is enough for right now. However, if I do decide to adopt Pet's By Judy will be the first one I contact. Thank you! Christine M. Paris

Shelly Belly the Bull Terrier
Shelly Belly the Bull Terrier

Dear Jessica and Janie, I just wanted to update you on Shelly Belly. This dog has pleasantly surprised all of us. In just six days, we can tell that she is the best dog for us - a perfect fit. We have had no issues with her whatsoever and we are grateful for all you have done for her. She is so obedient and well-trained. I think she has barked a grand total of twice since she has been with us.....once when she saw a sandhill crane in our back yard and wanted to go after it, and another time when she saw the neighbor's cat outside. Other than that, she just follows us around and does whatever she is told - but especially Shaun. She is his dog and she knows it. She waited for him by the back door when he left her at home with us yesterday for the first time. Below are pictures of her and Shaun out by our dock on Lake Hart. No, she didn't go swimming and I doubt we will let her swim there! Thanks again for all your help in finding the perfect dog for Shaun! Shirley
