Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Peyton the Trained Lab Mix (VIDEO!)

I grew up with pets my whole life, and am used to having several "fur children" in the family. After almost 3 years with one dog, my fiance and I finally decided it was time to add another member to our family. I found Peyton online and, after reading her story and applying for adoption, Peyton was brought to us by Bethany at PRBJ to meet us and my beagle, Delia. It only took one look at her to fall in love. Peyton is not only beautiful, but smart, loyal, and absolutely hilarious. She literally makes us laugh out loud every single day. She is a complete goofball and has tons of energy, so she keeps us active and on our toes. She can run on the treadmill by herself (which amazes everyone we tell), loves to meet new dogs and rough-house with dogs her size, and is a wonderful cuddler (even though she's a bed hog!). Because she was a stray for so long, it took some time for us to get used to her habits and fears - which includes protecting her food from other dogs. Delia learned this the hard way, but after working with Bethany on some new routines for us we have almost eliminated the problem. PRBJ has been a huge help with Peyton's transition, and I am so greatful for having her in our life. She is, hands down, the BEST dog I have ever had. Thank you PRBJ! Thanks Bethany! -Amelia

Paddy the Senior Airedale
Paddy the Senior Airedale

Merry Christmas, Janie, Just wanted to wish you a great Christmas Day. I'm sure by now you are aware that I was thrilled to meet "Paddy" just a month ago. Her foster mom, Rosie, had changed her name to "Maggie" prior to that. It was love at first site!! Our Vet gave her a great big hug (as well as goodies!) before she left his office. He thinks she's great, too. Maggie was the perfect Birthday gift from me to me that weekend. I love her dearly.... When she first came, she didn't eat for almost 3 days. I wasn't worried for the first two, but after then, well.... Now she is eating me out of house and home!!! Needless to say, she's pretty much "spoiled rotten"!! Thank God for her wonderful hearing...she's even doing things that Rusty never learned. I thank Him for her every day. I so badly needed a furry with good ears since mine aren't. I just wanted to say thanks for helping pick her out for me. My son, who is home this weekend from working in the Bahamas, agrees with me whole heartedly! Have a great day, Lynne and Maggie

Parker the Poodle Mix

I came to the PRBJ sanctuary on April 4, 2011, to adopt a dog I fell in love with on Petfinder, a Bossie/Boxer mix named Carson. I brought my buff cocker, Lacy, who would be companion. Well, Carson didn't like me one bit. The dog would not acknowledge me! Maybe he was happy in his foster home (one of the PRBJ volunteer's) and just didn't want to go. So there we were, having driven an hour and a half. I said to one of the volunteers, "As long as I'm here, who else have you got?" It was time for the socialized dogs to have their run in the yard, so she invited me to bring Lacy along. It was like a visit to the dog park. Lacy and Parker the poodle found each other. Poor parker had been found so matted that he had to be shaved almost unrecognizable as a poodle. He was also about as opposite a breed as I was looking for! I like boxers! And dobermans! I said, "Lacy, REALLY?" Lacy insisted. The 3 of us went back into the office to do the paperwork. On the way home, I kept looking at Parker and thinking, a poddle? REALLY? I said to him, "You are SO not my type!" He knew what I was saying, and he smiled and responded in his way, "Oh, I AM NOW!" Parker is an amazing soul. He is incredibly loving and affectionate. He wants to be held like a baby. He has neither aggression nor fear. He walks perfectly with my mobility scooter. I didn't think it was possible but he requires more grooming than Lacy! But even that is a bonding experience. When Lacy (14) has to leave her body someday, I'm going to concentrate on getting Parker (4) trained as a therapy/hospice dog. attached: before and after pics THANK YOU SO MUCH for Parker and for all the animals. -- Cori

Patriot the Cairn Terrier Mix

Dexter had a great 1st campout! He ran and ran and ran, then he swam and swam and swam ! By Sunday he was begging for someone to tie him up or put him on a leash! He was exhausted playing with all the other camping pets. Everyone loved him and he even won the costume contest! Thanks Tammy

Penelope the Pretty Kitty

Just wanted you to know that Penelope is doing great! I can't imagine why someone would NOT want to adopt her. She is up to 7 pounds now. She runs around the house after the other cat we rescued. It's so funny to see them chasing each other. She is so affectionate too. She loves to be petted and greets us in the morning and when we get home for work. Penelope now curls up on our laps or in the recliner to watch tv in the evening. Thank you for letting us add her to our family ;) Kimberly and Tom
