Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Naples the Bunny-Loving Coonhound
Naples the Bunny-Loving Coonhound

Hi Keri, What a great dog!! I’m sure your fostering helped make her the delight that she is. The ride home went pretty well, Naples aka Gracie aka Mamou was a little shakey, calmed down on the interstate and then got a little excited when we got back into traffic. All in all I think she did great. We are going to start taking her for short drives everyday so she can get used to riding in the car without being afraid…I think she will love just seeing the sights and of course the smells. As you can see from the few photos, she seems to have settled in comfortably. She is terrified of thunderstorms….maybe that’s temporary because she has just moved, but yesterday she really had a hard time with the storms we had. She was crying and shaking and panting..I felt so sorry for her. She is eating like a hound…loves Oscar Mayer hot dogs, cheddar cheese and even pot roast with the potatoes, carrots and other veggies. We do feed her dog food two meals a day which she eats all of. I put chicken broth on it so that may make a difference. I think she likes being on only dog and follows us from room to room when she is moving around. She does like to nap and it is hard to believe she really is 10 yrs old. We go for two sometimes 3 walks a day and she is so curious about everything…especially cats! One more name change....Mamou. Mamou is an affectionate name for an older lady in Cajun country..South Louisiana where we are from. It is pronounced Mawmoo’..she is SOOO adaptable..already knows her forever name!! Thanks for letting us have this dog..she is really a love. Helen Hebert

Nimmi the Collie
Nimmi the Collie

To all of you at PRBJ-Nimmi (renamed Nyana) has been with me two weeks tomorrow! For such a docile dog at the meet and greet, she has turned into a terror! I believe that means nothing more than she feels secure in her new environment, even after such a short period of time. Zelda is also being much more accommodating-growls are less and less frequent, and I believe I detect a subtle wag of the tail when Nyana licks her eyes or nuzzles next to her while napping. Yesterday she visited the vet for her two week check-up from the heartworm treatment, and the vet seemed pleased with her progress. Thank you all for helping me adopt this precious dog. I didn't think it would be possible to be interested in another dog soon after Nikita's death, but we are glad to have Nyana! ~ Maureen

Nayla the MinPin
Nayla the MinPin

Everything is going very well. I haven't taken any pictures (camera is broken) but will get some at Thanksgiving when family is here. She seems to have settled down and getting to trust me. In fact, last week while I was on the computer, she left the room and came back with one of her toys that was at another part of the house and dropped it at my feet! I took it as a good sign. Have had no destruction like chewing shoes or scratching doors...no interest in the horse or birds in cage. We will be at the park when I feel confident she will return to me at such a large area. Right now I walk with leash. Thanks for asking, Jean

Nero the MinPin
Nero the MinPin

Nero is doing just great! He did have a skin infection the first week we had him, but we got him on antibiotics, special skin shampoo, and natural foods and his skin has completely cleared. We have also been walking him regularly, so he has "slimmed down" and weighs about 20 pounds. My wife and I think he looks really good and is very happy with us and his new brothers (2 min pins) and sister (rat terrier). Everyone gets along very well! We did submit him for your Pet Rescue By Judy Calendar Contest (haven't heard the results yet) and I have attached the photos we submitted and here is the story we wrote about him for the Calendar: "We first saw Nero, a seven year old Miniature Pinscher, in August of 2008 at the PetSmart in Lake Mary with Pet Rescue by Judy and were immediately taken with his beautiful brown eyes. Nero suffered from “black dog syndrome” because people typically prefer to adopt lighter colored dogs, making black dogs the last to be adopted. Although we were not looking to adopt another dog, we could not resist his big personality. We are so glad that we have made him a permanent addition to our family — he loves to walk, play, and cuddle; his nickname is Panda Bear!" I will be sure to send you pictures of us with him when I get some good ones. Thanks for asking about Nero; we really love him, and he is a great addition to our family! Wes

Nana the Jack Russell
Nana the Jack Russell

Good Morning! I just wanted to let you know Riley is doing great. We tried using Nana and she wasn't responding well. We kept calling different names and she responded to Riley and it has stuck ever since. She has joined into the family just as expected. She has taken to the cat like she owns the house and the cat is there just for her to play with. They wrestle and chase each other around the house all evening long. She also has made great friends at the dog park and we try to get there at least once a weekend to let her play. We couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family. Thanks for helping match us and I will try to send pictures soon! ~ Jennifer
