Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Maira the Cooing Calico Kitten
Maira the Cooing Calico Kitten

Hi Bren and Stephanie, I just wanted to thank you both for everything you did to make it possible for us to adopt Maira and to give you an update. She is absolutely precious and is doing really well so far. We have her set up in our guest room with all her toys and food & water and litter box. She used the litter box right away (just like you said she would need to!) and has also eaten a little and had a little water too. We kept her really busy for about the first hour and wore her out. She has been sleeping for about 2 hours now which is killing Jack! We have gone in to check on her several times and just looks at us and goes back to sleep! She was super playful for over an hour and is a riot to watch with the ball in the track. Jack is going to sleep in there with her tonight so she won't be alone. Snowy doesn't seem troubled by her at all. We let them see each other when we got home and they just looked at each other, sniffed a little and that was the extent of the excitement. No hissing or anything yet. I think they are going to be the best of friends. : ) I will keep you updated and will also send pictures as soon as I can load them off my camera. Bren, please don't worry about her. I promise you we will love her and take very good care of her. Thank you so much for giving her such a wonderful start in life. It is because of you that she has such a sweet temperament is so so well adjusted. She never went and hid under the bed or anything. Thanks so much again. You are both terrific! Dana

Mable the Coonhound
Mable the Coonhound

Hi Keri~ I cannot believe it has taken me this long to be back in touch with you. Sorry about that. We wanted to let you know Mable is a very happy, healthy and thriving family dog at our house. She is no longer afraid of anything. She loves my husband and spends much of her time with him. Not to say she doesn't like the rest of us. She loves our kids too. I guess it would be best to say she has a different relationship with all of us. Mable is definitely benefits from all the attention. She is so spoiled. She has become a wonderful and loving family pet. The first couple of months were up and down because she has so many fears. We all worked through them and I really don't think anyone would ever know of her previous situation. Now our only fear is we worry her tail is going to fall off from wagging so much. She really is a happy dog! I think rescue pets are the most grateful of all pets. They seem to appreciate everything so much! Lately, I have noticed Mable becoming more affectionate and snugly. She loves to cuddle up and sleep next to us or my girls. She and Miller get along fine. They have never had an issue of any sort but outside the house she seems to be his great protector. She is quiet in the house but when she gets out she is loud. We don't mind. We just think she has a lot to say. Anyhow, we wanted you to know how Mable was doing and that she is absolutely wonderful! She loves her daily walks, her toys (of which she has many), and her own bed. She is such a great dog and we are so glad she is a part of our family! Kim

Midnight the Mellow Puppy
Midnight the Mellow Puppy

Hi Janie! Midnight (aka Blue) is doing wonderfully! My older dog and him have become best buddies and they play all day long. Midnight is one of the most amazing puppies I have ever seen. He is so laid back and listens to everything you tell him to do. If he's doing something wrong you only have to tell him once and he won't do it again! He such an intelligent pup and picks up on commands within minutes. He doesn't like being away form me for a second! We introduced him to the lake last weekend and although timid at first, before long he was romping happily in the water...he has quickly become my best buddy =) I have attached a couple pictures of him from our day at the lake, playing with his buddies. Thanks again for everything Janie, I will send you pictures as he grows! Sincerely, Kristy Stevenson

Moose the Katrina Rescue
Moose the Katrina Rescue

Dear Judy, I just wanted to send my "pet rescue succes story'. Cole (also known as Moose) was the result of a litter from one of the Katrina rescues. I adopted him in March of 2006.I only went to Petsmart that day for dog food and really did try to leave the store without looking at ANY of the many animals there for adoption. He was in the pen with 4 of his siblings and he kept trying to get away from the others to no avail. I asked to see him and once he kissed me I fell in love. I did put him back in the cage planning to leave but I didn't even get to my car before I turned around and said I'll take him. I already had 3 other dogs at home (rescues) and knew I'd hear it from family and friends but he was just too handsome and sweet to leave behind. Half basset, half shephard he got the best of both breeds. Two weeks after I adopted him he developed a really bad upper respitory infection and it was touch and go for a while there but he pulled through and has been my big baby ever since! . At about a year old he was attacked at the dog park by two white shephards and he has become rather aggressive to other dogs but never to our pack. He is currently in training and he is so smart and learning everything so fast that I known the aggression will go away as he gains more confidence. Every week he amazes the trainer and I with how quickly he learns. After only 3 weeks he no longer trys to attack the dogs in class and is not bothered by the puppies barking right next to the training area. Today I walked him around the neighborhood and he ignored all the others dogs (for the first time!) I hope soon to be able to bring him with me when I know you will be there so he can thank you in person. He loves to snuggle and has never met a human he doesn't like. He loves to talk to me in the morning and lectures me when I get home from work. Thank you again for saving his momma so that he had a chance to be loved. I hope his brothers and sisters where as lucky. Randi Gaskill PS Your are MY pet rescue hero!!

Majorette the Puppy
Majorette the Puppy

Hi everyone at Pet Rescue by Judy! I just wanted to send a family picture of me & Rio (aka Majorette) whom I adopted back in December. We are doing wonderful and she is up to 45 lbs already. I took her to the beach for the first time last week and she loved it. The waves were a little too big for her liking but we still had a great time. I'm so happy you guys helped me find her, thank you so much and take care! ~Kelly W.
