Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Ki the Smiling Love Bug (Video)
Ki the Smiling Love Bug (Video)

I hope all is well with you. I wanted to touch base with you to let you know how Ki is doing. He is one big happy dog! His excellent behavior has earned him the right to shadow us around the house. The first night the kids said they had a crate for him, but it was too small (go figure!). Needless to say, he sleeps with Michael in his room. They are like two peas in a pod! These two have a bond like none other I have ever seen between human and animal. They just know what each other is thinking. It has really been amazing to watch them interact. He responds well with me and Tim also, which is good for when the kids are at school or involved in other activities. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with Ki. If someone would have told me a dog could act the way he does, I would not have believed them. He is truly an amazing animal! Ki is very respectful of the cats, as they are with him. He has not chased them at all. The first day my big 20lb fur ball Chin Chin (this is the one my Rhodesian Ridgeback guard dog would tote around in his mouth) and Ki sat on opposite sides of my legs. They peeked around looking at each other. Both growed a slight bit. After about five minutes they were touching noses. As I am writing this, Ki is in the living room with the cats just hanging out. They are not barking, hissing, chasing, in fact - it looks like a bunch of friends at a slumber party waiting for the pop corn and movie to start! We could not be more pleased with a dog. Ki is the perfect fit for our family. Knowing he was with you so long, I thought it would be good for you to know how he is, and how we are with him. Thank you for the loving care you provided for him. All the time and care you gave Ki is very evident in his actions. Thank you for loving and carring for Ki. Your involment with him molded him into a beautiful magnificent loving dog. We cannot thank you enough for all you did for him. Please know he will be greatly loved and cared for here. in HIS joy, Diane and Family

Kon the Corgi
Kon the Corgi

Good morning! I wanted to touch base with an update on “Kon”. First, he was renamed “Otis”. It just seemed to suit him….. I took the liberty of attaching a few pictures of him. We’ve had him now about 3 months. He and our 2 ½ year old Boston got along well from the beginning and things were going well. However, as you may recall, when my son came home from college, we had some significant issues arise. He was lunging, growling and snarling whenever my son & his friends entered the house. I was very concerned that someone would get bitten and wasn’t sure we would get through it. However, he is such a sweetheart of a dog and we were determined to try. With patience and lots of love and attention from my son & his friends, Otis began to trust them and those fear/aggression behaviors resolved. His reaction is now what I would consider “perfect” —a little bark for greeting with tail wags and then he simply returns to whatever he was doing before they arrived. Sometimes, he doesn’t even get up, just looks at the door as it opens and "grumbles". Other than the snag I just described, this is a fabulous dog!!! He is smart and affectionate. He absolutely must be in the room with you at all times. He follows various family members wherever we go. He has jumped in the swimming pool several times too! We just returned from the GA mountains where he even jumped in the river to follow the kids. He is really destructive with toys with those sharp teeth but he’s so darn cute---we have already spent a small fortune replacing toys. There are so many great stories I could tell about things he has done, but bottom line---this wonderful dog is truly now a part of this family and we wouldn't trade him for anything! . As far has his health, he requires weekly baths with medicated soap for a skin condition and he continues to have problems with his right rear knee that may require surgery. Thank you for all the work you do at Pet Rescue. I can not imagine how this dog came to you, but he has brought us great joy and we look forward to many years with him.
