Animal Success Stories

Second only to finding homes for our animals is the joy of hearing back from their new families.  We invite you to read along with us.  If you should decide to open up your heart and home to one of our angels, please send us a note and photo to tell us how it is going!  We will post it on this page so others can share in your happiness.

Heffernan the Bulldog
Heffernan the Bulldog

Hi Judy! Snapped the best picture the other day of Heffernan and Honey (our other dog - chihuahua) and I had to share it with you. Remember Heffernan? I believe he was staying at your house before we adopted him. He is doing great! Just wanted to share this picture with you and your crew. Love, Lindsey and Jeremy

Henry the Clever Fox Terrier
Henry the Clever Fox Terrier

Henry has been so amazing and I love him to death. I have been training him and he's gotten so good. He's so smart and loves being trained. He knows sit, up, crawl, down, high 10, high 5, paw, and roll over down pat. I'm working so hard on the come and stay part. He's a great dog and a good companion. He actually gets jealous when you're paying attention to someone else and not him. He'll bring you his toys and whine at you when he wants to play. At night when he's calming down he just likes to lay down next to you. He's such a cutie when he sleeps. It's hilarious because he makes all these crazy noises when he's pretty much passed out. It's almost like he's groaning. I am so glad that I adopted this dog. He's so wonderful and I just can't imagine my life without him. He's my little baby now. Thanks Judy for everything! -Katelin

Hampton the Puppy
Hampton the Puppy

In May 2009 we had to put our dog Bo down. He was 14 and almost completely incapacitated so it was time but that didn't make saying goodbye any easier. Bo was the perfect dog and my husband and I always joked about cloning him. Little did we know we would be fortunate enough to come very close to doing so... We have always loved dogs and we knew we would eventually welcome another dog into our family. We also are very aware of pet overpopulation issues and irresponsible dog breeding. We adopted our last 2 dogs at county animal shelters. After several months of mourning Bo, we realized it was time to enlarge our family, however, I did NOT want a puppy. We are a busy family and I didn't want to struggle through the first few months of puppy hood...We had adopted Bo at about 10 months and that worked very well for us so we thought finding a dog around a year old would be perfect. We searched for weeks at local shelters, county animal control, PRBJ and online but never found "the one". We saw so many deserving dogs but we knew we had to find the dog that would fit with our family. One night, I was online once again checking websites and came across a picture of an 8 week old puppy named Hampton on PRBJ's website. We had been at PRBJ that weekend but never saw him because Hampton was being fostered by a wonderfully kind woman named Nicole and her daughter Abigail. What struck me was how much Hampton looked like Bo! A black fur ball with sweet brown eyes...I knew right away we needed to meet him. I registered online and indicated my interest in Hampton and Nicole contacted me to set up a meeting at PRBJ that week! We knew the moment we saw Hampton that he was "the one" and we have not been disappointed or had one moment of regret. We renamed him Boo after Bo (Bo with an extra O). He is so very sweet and playful and has folded right into our family from day one. It really is uncanny how much Boo reminds us of our old dog Bo. He LOVES playing with the kids and swimming in the pool! Nicole had warned me he loved the water and it took us a week or two to train him not to play in his water bowl but that was easy once he discovered the pool! We are fortunate to live on a very dog friendly cul-de-sac so Boo has several dog friends he sees daily. He also loves car rides and the dog park. He is about 5 months now and doing very well. Yes, we struggled through a few weeks of potty training but all in all it was not nearly as bad as we anticipated. Boo is a quick study and so very eager to please. By the time he was 4 months, my 9 yr old son (Boo's best friend) had already trained Boo to sit, stay and down. We feel very fortunate to have found him. Our former dog Bo left some big shoes to fill but Boo is well on his way to doing just that... Our most sincere thanks to Nicole, Abigail, Amanda, Jessica and, of course, Judy for all you did for Boo and all you do for so many other animals.

Happy the Senior Spitz
Happy the Senior Spitz

Hello to all the folks who helped take care of Happy. She's doing very well with transitioning to her new home. The lack of appetite her foster reported was resolved within a day. We fed her a little breakfast bacon. Then Happy let us know she loves Purina One canned food & denta stix. She hadn't touched the Nutro dog kibble, so we got some Purina One crunchy kibble & she's enjoyed the morning breakfast routine ever since. Now she like both types of dry food & Breath Busters, as well. Happy likes to help any time I'm in the kitchen. She's met quite a few dogs & cats in the neighborhood along with lots of new people, making friends with whomever she meets. All I need to do is show Happy her leash & that tail starts wagging. She good with both neighborhood walks & potty breaks. She knows where her home is and readily indentifies our house when we're out for walks. Fuzzy, our keeshond, is protective of Happy & will go with her everytime she sets foot outdoors. When I walk them together, they try to herd eachother. It's fun to watch the give & take. Jack is more relaxed with Happy. They're starting to get the hang of walking together as a trio with John or me. I've sent photos of everyone, but don't have any shots of them together yet. We're very pleased with Happy & wanted to let you know she's doing well. Thanks for taking good care of Happy until she could come to make her home with us. Best wishes, Rose & John Irby

Hey Judy, Here is a picture of Shirley (formerly known as Hurley). She is a joy and is loving the new abode! She adapted very well here and it is like she has been with us for years. We are having such fun with her; she has brought new life to our home! Thanks for the opportunity! We love our "Shirley". The Mund Family
