The Rainbow Bridge
...Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so -
'twas heaven here with you.

Juanita
I heard about this cat in Altamonte Springs Petsmart. I saw her a week
beforehand and now Judy called me and said Juanita was getting "nippy" because
she has been stuck in a cage. Juanita was a mother cat having a litter 5 months
prior. I said bring her over and she can stay with me until we find a forever
home. I always adopt the "less adoptable" cats. Well Juanita quickly grew on us
and became the newest member of the family. She slept next to me at night and
was always just so appreciative to receive attention by her loud motor and her
rubbing her face in yours. She started to get along with the other cats
especially Phoebe, the "queen" of the house. She eventually stopped eating and
we knew there was something wrong. She had surgery but never recovered from it.
I miss her so much already even though we only had her about six weeks. I find
comfort in knowing she had a home in the final weeks of her life and was given
the best health care. I firmly believe in rescuing and having as many cats as I
can handle since there are so many that need homes. -Abel Marowitz
In Loving Memory of Spike the Bulldog
On July 8th 2007 Spike the Bulldog sadly passed away. He had not been sick, it happened all of a sudden. Spike began coughing a bit and had asked to go outside. He laid in the sun all morning. Then moved to the shade and would not come back inside the house. Spike died peacefully on a warm summer day under the shade of a very large sycamore tree. He was in his classic bulldog position, on his stomach with his two front paws directly in front of him and his back legs parallel behind him. Spike was 10 years old when he died. He never really had any health problems throughout his life. The majority of his vet visits were well visits with the exception of a minor problem here and there. For those of you who know the English Bulldog, that's pretty amazing.
Spikes passing was a shock to all that knew him. He will be greatly missed by not only his family, but by his many friends, including the UPS guy, who would scratch is back on every visit.
If it were not for Spike the Bulldog, the Dog Breed Information Center website might not exist today. Spike is where it all began and the site will continue in his memory. We all love you Spike!
~ Here at Pet Rescue By Judy, we are very grateful to Spike as he inspired www.dogbreedinfo.com, the site from which we get those extra facts we add to our dog descriptions. We have been told that this extra information has tipped the scales for many people when deciding to adopt a rescued pet. So, thank you, Spike ~ you helped many dogs find new forever homes!
Popcorn
Popcorn was a beautiful chocolate Cocker Spaniel who was turned over to Pet Rescue By Judy with his sister, Poppit. They had been given as gifts to a woman by her daughter. She was at a point in her life where she didn't really want the challenges of puppies, and so asked Judy to find them homes. While fostering the pair, I came to enjoy their special qualities. Popcorn was much more sure of himself, always the first out the door to see what was going on. Poppit, on the other hand, tended to hold back a bit and take her queues from her brother. Because of this, it was our hope that they would find a home together. And so they did. Paul and Susan came down from the Jacksonville area to get these precious angels and bring them home to their family, two 15 year old retrievers. It was a very happy day for us all. Imagine our shock when we learned that Popcorn had become ill during the night and was rushed to the emergency room. After testing he was diagnosed with parvo, a sudden and usually fatal illness. Paul and Susan were not willing to give up on the fellow so easily and pursued treatment for him but sadly the baby was just too weak. The Pet Rescue By Judy family share their sorrow and are grateful to them for caring for him and loving on Poppit.
Shadow
In April of 2007, Judy rescued a seven-year-old black German Shepherd from a home in which she had been abused, starved and eventually abandoned. When Judy first got her, Shadow was a shell - emaciated, bones pressing against hairless skin, just a glimmer of hope in her eyes. Isn't it amazing what love and kindness can do? When I saw her a month later, she was filling out, her coat was coming in, her hair glistened, there was joy in her eyes and a prance in her step! No one could believe it was the same dog. She appeared to suffer a set back when diagnosed with arthritis, but responded well to glucosimen. But in late June she began to concern Judy. X-rays revealed a huge mass pressing against her abdomen. On Friday, Judy made the difficult decision to put Shadow's suffering to an end. Never an easy decision, often the right decision. We take solice in knowing that Shadow was truly happy those last two months, possibly experiencing love for the first time in her life. We are appreciative of all of our friends who donated to help offset her medical bills. We believe it was money well spent and thank you for giving Shadow days of joy. In memory of her we are establishing the Shadow's Hope Fund. Donations made to it will be applied to extrordinary medical expenses incurred in the rescue of our pets. Just the same week we had to put down a puppy with a fractured pelvis - we simply could not afford the cost of surgery. Although we know that putting an animal to sleep can be the right decision, we do not want our decisions to be driven by cost. If you wish to donate to this cause, please indicate "Shadow's Hope" on either your check or paypal. And as always, your support of rescued animals is always appreciated.
Tenakee
We adopted Tenakee, an Australian Shepherd mix, from an animal rescue in Connecticut. All skin and bones, he had spent the first two years of his life tied outside to a rock. In no time at all, love and good nutrition brought an auburn sheen to his coat and a gleam to his sky-blue eyes. After a month, we got him a cat since he was always trying to play with the cats in the neighborhood. Of course, Baranov, who seemed so docile when we rescued him from the edge of starvation, turned out to delight in tormenting the poor dog! Oh well, Tenakee was good-hearted about it. Probably the easiest dog we ever had, Tenakee was up for a game whenever we wanted but happy to lay on our son's bed looking out the window the rest of the time (after two years outside, he preferred to look out at the world!). Imagine our shock when, at seven years old, he suddenly developed lymphoma. Within three weeks of the first symptons, we had to put him down. We were devastated! A couple of months later, we were in dog-withdrawl but unwilling to "replace" him. Our solution was simple: we became a foster family for Pet Rescue By Judy. It has been a joy and possibly the finest tribute we could make to our beloved Tenakee, missed but not forgotten..... - The Ryerson Family
