Dog for a Day Update: "Jewel’s Big Adventure"
We saw Jewel’s story a few days ago on the PRBJ FB page, and it broke my heart. I immediately messaged and asked if I could schedule her for “Dog For a Day” to take her out as a treat given her unfortunate circumstances. I filled out the necessary paperwork and my daughter a
nd I could hardly wait until Saturday to spend the day with Jewel. We picked her up about noon and took her New Smyrna Dune Park to the “dog beach.” We felt like this ‘Tennessee girl’ ought to have a fabulous day at the beach… And let me tell you she did indeed!
We took our dog Mac (formerly rescued from PRBJ as ‘Tank’) with us and acclimated them to one another before we left just fine. Jewel was an absolutely perfect car rider for the hour drive over and back. She was very pleasant with every dog, person, and child she met. Sometimes other dogs would bark at her and she was completely unphased. She loved to walk the beach, swim, and hang around on the sand by our towel. She even gave a few kisses when we requested. She walked on her leash like a lady and never once pulled, and she obeyed basic commands too. Lots of people petted her, and we told them about the “Dog For a Day” program with PRBJ and that Jewel was out for the day. Not one person could believe it because she is pretty much a perfect dog. On the way home, we stopped for ice cream and both our dog and Jewel got a ‘pup cup.’ Jewel ate hers with very nice manners and seemed to enjoy her refreshing treat after her beautiful day at the beach. She was so happy. We’re sure she was thinking it was ‘the best day ever’!
If you are looking for a Rottie mix with a wonderful disposition who gets along with everyone, Jewel is your girl! This sweetheart of a gal is so completely loving and gentle. It was absolutely our pleasure to spend the day with Jewel, and our goal is to write this little story in hopes that it will find the person who is looking just for her! smile emoticon Please feel free to share this story PRBJ, and I hope all your followers will share it on their pages as well! (We just lost one of our pets after 13 years less than two weeks ago, and we are not ready for another pet yet, but wanted to give back by helping Jewel. Today was VERY therapeutic for us.) THANK YOU, PRBJ for having this wonderful program. We’ll be back again soon!"
