Lester is German Shepherd and about as pretty as you please. He is a truly happy fellow. As one of our volunteers described him, "Bundle of joy! Loves life!"
Lester was adopted a couple of years ago to a wonderful family with three children. He has done well in the home but the adopters felt it wasn't a good fit after some incidents with his food and toys. Lester needs a home with an experenced owner! He enjoys herding the next door neighbors cows but always returns home after enjoy a run! He does "guard" his toys and food and will nip if he does not want them removed. He has never nipped at the children in his previous home but we want to find an all adult home as to prevent any incidents. He loves squeeky toys, going on walks, and cuddling. He is housetrained and runs free in the home when the owners are not there. He does not like the vets office and requires a mussle to be vaccinated or have a nail trim. Lester should be the only dog in the home.
Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground.
A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
