January 16th Dog 4 a Day update. Make sure to check out all of the pictures of Charley! : Just following up on our day with Charley. He's such a wonderful dog! We first took him across the street to Paw Park and then to Paw Park Place for treats and the dog park there. Afterwards we took him to downtown Sanford to walk around the historic area and along the marina. Lastly, we stopped by to eat outside with him at Willow Tree. All in all, he was SO well-behaved. We were really impressed. We noticed he is definitely timid and shy around other dogs, at first. However after a few walks around the dog park he seemed to warm up and enjoy the interactions. He especially liked an Australian Shepard and was trying to play with him. When we brought him over to Paw Park Place we let him off the leash in their little dog park for some one on one attention with him. He seemed to get along with us after a few treats. He's definitely shy at first but warms up. He's very loving and calm. Charley likes to play, but seemed like he didn't know quite how to! One of the groomers came over and got him to interact, play, and jump. We were so surprised! So he definitely has it in him! At the dog park we noticed he's VERY good with other dogs. He's a very curious sniffer! He loved to wander to different ends on the sidewalk and sniff everything out. He's also very good with people! He drew a lot of attention and wasn't bothered or hesitant with people coming to pet him. He didn't bark at all, which was a great thing! Charley also jumped in our car very quickly (which we thought he was going to be hesitant). We really enjoyed spending the day with him that I believe we will request him next time :)
Below are some pictures of him. I really hope all this information helps and that the pictures help get him to the home he deserves. Thank you again for allowing us to help out :)
*** Are you not familiar with Rottweilers? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Rottie is calm, trainable, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. The Rottweiler is probably descended from the Italian Mastiff. During the Middle Ages, it was used as a herd dog. It was bred in the German town of Rottweil in Wurttemberg. Practically extinct in the 1800's, the breed population began a comeback in the early twentieth century due to the efforts of enthusiastic breeders centered in Stuttgart. Some of the Rottweilers talents include: tracking, herding, watchdogging, guarding, police work, carting, competitive obedience, and schutzhund. They have a reliable temperament. Protective, he will defend his family fiercely. They require owners who can handle their massive size. The Rottie is a natural guard dog with a mellow temperament. They are highly intelligent and have proven their worth beyond question in police, military, and customs work over many centuries. This breed needs a lot of companionship and socialization to be truly happy. They can be aggressive with other dogs and should be kept on leashes in public places. Friends and relatives of the family are normally enthusiastically welcomed. Strangers can get no further than the sidewalk. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
