Description: OK, don't leave this webpage until you watch the video of Chaplin, created by his foster. I'm still laughing!!!!!!!!! Chaplin is a hound puppy that we rescued from a high-kill shelter in Georgia. Poor little guy was brought to us so malnourished that he was all skin and bones, plus had a bad skin condition to boot. See those sad eyes? No doubt that with a little food and a lotta loving, we'll have the light shining back in those eyes!!!
10/27 Foster Update: "Chaplin is a star. He is very lovely, I brought him home last Thursday evening, I didn't cage him and when I got up in the morning he was sleeping on his back on the couch. When I brought him home, he grabbed a shoe of mine that was lying around to play with and chew on. I had to go to work Friday so I closed all the bedrooms and bathroom doors in the house and left him in the living room and kitchen. I came home for lunch and he had not peed or poohed, or ripped anything up. He is housetrained ~ you have to ask him if he wants to o pee. He has the general idea what you mean. He has his puppy ways, like when you are trying to get dressed for work he will try to remove your socks as you are putting them on. He likes to mouth your hand but not hard, just playful. He likes to be petted. We have been on a few walks. He does ok, pulls a little. I have given him hide bones to chew on so when I left him today he had something to keep him busy. He is a very lovely dog. Loves you to throw his bone in the yard ~ he runs and brings it back to you all pleased with himself. I can honestly say he hasn't got a bad or mean streak in his body. He is well behaved, but you have to give him a firm No, and give him something to keep him busy. He has not chewed my furniture or gone to the bathroom in my house. He would make a great family pet. He isn't shy or people. I have let him meet my mom's two other dogs and they sniffed and said Hi ~ no fights. Children have petted him and he was OK with that. He has a playful puppy way and is a fantastic dog. He hasn't barked yet! Thank you, Judy, for letting me foster Chaplin. He is the Best! My first foster and it's a pleasure."
12/1 Foster Update: We began fostering Chaplin the day after Thanksgiving and are having a blast with him. He is very playful and still has a good amount of puppy left in him, but it seems to be only the good parts of puppyhood that are left. He is houstrained and even sits at the door to go outside. He tried to steal our shoes a couple of times but the moment we said no and replaced the shoe with a dog toy he left the shoes alone even when we left them where he could still reach them. He is a quick learner and you can tell by the look in his eyes that he just wants to please you. But more than the desire to play and learn this boy is a lover. He loves to be hugged and to lay his head in your lap, and the minute you rub his belly he melts. He is very easy going and gets along well with all three of our other dogs. I can honestly say that the only slightly negative thing we have found is that he does chase our cat so we are working on that issue but I have no doubt that with some consistent training and redirection he will be able to become cat friendly in a short amount of time.
12/19 Foster Update: He is such a sweetie, very affectionate and loves to snuggle. He has recently taken to sneaking up in bed next to me at night once I'm asleep and snuggles up just as close as he can get. I'm so tired I don't even wake up enough to tell him no (and kind of don't want to tell him no). It's so cute, he has maybe 4 inches of room to sleep on but he makes it work and lays his head next to mine.
