Maxwell was K9 trained to be a service dog but was found to be too apprehensive to be considered an ideal candidate to respond to the needs of those he served. He would make an excellent family dog, as he loves people.
Maxwell and his 2 siblings Minnie and Bobbyl were in a shelter, A-Shelter Friend. Unfortunately, the owner of the rescue group has become very ill and has not been able to keep the shelter going. Judy rescued the 3 beautiful siblings. Maxwell is so sweet and gentle, get's along great with other dogs and kids. Maxwell can be cat tested if needed. Like his other siblings he would make a great family addition.
Dog For A Day Update:
Dog 4 a Day was such a success with Maxwell! He's such a sweet and loving dog with a playful personality. Max is good on a leash and good without one as well.
We took Max to our house where he was very curious about everything. We have a large backyard where I walked him without his leash and he stayed close by sniffing around.
We then took Max to Park Ave in Winter Park and he was a little timid at first not being sure of all the people but he soon warmed up and enjoyed his outing.
Max loves to give kisses on your face and hands and is such a great boy!
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
