Special Needs: Pot Pie has arthritis and is on medication which helps her greatly ~ Mary Ellen
Description: Pot Pie is an adorable little Miniature Pinscher. Well, maybe not so little. She is carrying a few extra pounds, but then again, who isn't??? We rescued Pot Pie from the Seminole County Animal Control. And aren't we glad that we did. This little darling is an absolute sweetheart and will make a wonderful addition to any home. She is 8 years old, but that isn't so much when you consider that MinPins live on average to 15 years old. There are many happy lively years left is this little pumpkin! However, we have qualified her for our Seniors for Seniors program ~ if adopted by a senior citizen, her adoption fee will be just $75.
9/24/2008 Foster Update:
This little girl was fostered out to me on Sunday. Her sad history is definitely in her past. Loves company and riding in the car. Takes any amount of attention, but will also lay quietly beside you while you work. Pot Pie does not know what aggression is. Recently fixed she is still understandably protective of her soreness. However, if you have the time, she will lay on her side and let you gently stroke that area until she falls into a deep sleep. Is gently playful - has yet to understand what toys are! Perfect table manners; does not pester at meals times — just sits in hope a piece might fall her way! Night-time snuggles are a favourite time. Once lights are out she takes her position as close as you will allow, until morning — always being last up for breakfast.
Update 9/26/2008
Pot Pie is growing more confident and at home daily. She and Tootsi (my Chihuahua) are becoming real pals. Likes to use whichever Tootsi bed is free! Not very sure of passing traffic just observes as they pass. Happy to walk as few or as many times as you choose. Completely house-trained. I crate her if I slip to the store but only because Tootsi is not use to maybe ‘someone’ wanting her bed!!!!! It will not take long before the crate is surplus. Warms to people easily. Is wary of sudden noise but if shown where it came from she’s happy. Toys are now being investigated!! Enjoys trying new flavours: dry toast, fruit, veggies and fat-free (of course) fruit yoghurt, partial to chicken and rice too. Will wander at your side in the yard seeking out lizards or anything that moves. But, watch out squirrels! Kisses, kisses, kisses this little lady has found my face!!!!
12/17 Update: Pot Pie is such a gem. She has become best friends with Maisy, a terrier who came to us from not so great a situation. They take care of each other, playing and sharing the same Kuranda bed. It really is adorable!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Miniature Pinscher is not related to the Doberman Pinscher, and is in fact an older breed than the Doberman. Developed in Germany from terrier breeds, including the German Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher's original use was in hunting rats to keep the population down in the stables that it frequented. Italian Greyhound blood may have been added to produce such a tiny, high stepping-dog. The word "Pinscher" means "terrier" in German. Today the MinPin's high spirit and bright personality make him a charming companion. Some of the Miniature Pinscher's talents are competitive obedience, watchdogging, and agility. The Miniature Pinscher is a hardy little fellow that is very demanding and headstrong. This proud, overly courageous dog likes to bark. They are loyal to their masters, spirited and alert, with high energy. Intelligent, lively and brave, it is a big dog in a little dog's body. The Miniature Pinscher is moderately protective. Some can be very aggressive with other dogs, but they are generally good with other pets and children provided the children do not pester. They are rather suspicious towards strangers, but their behavior depends entirely upon how they were brought u
