Max was surrendered to us because his owner passed away and all extended family lived out of state. Max was surrendered to PRBJ in hopes of finding a loveing home.  He is up to date and looking for a family to love...and one to call furever home.

Foster Update 8/18/15:
Max is a sweetheart and everyone he meets just loves him. He has a lot of energy and loves to go on walks and run around in the dog park and back yard. He is always ready to play with toys or other dogs. He loves being around people and other dogs. He is a snuggler both while you are sitting on the couch and loves to sleep in bed with you.

Max is super smart and eager to learn. He knows basic commands (sit, speak, lie down, come, paw) and is quick to learn new ones with a little guidance. We also just started working on the "run" command at the end of our walks and he loves running beside you. He is very interested in cats and enjoys being around them. He would be best with a younger cat that would appreciate his playful and curious attitude and would tolerate some playful sniffing and love.

He gets along great with other dogs but does want to play with them so would be best to either be solo dog with someone who can give him lots of play time and walks or with another dog who likes to play. He gets along great with children and new people but we working containing his excitement during initial meetings when he can barely contain his joy at meeting /seeing you. We are working on leash skills also as he gets excited and pulls but is learning quickly how to walk nicely.

Max is completely house trained and hasn't had any accidents in the house. He LOVES car rides and jumps around in excitement if you let him know it is time to go out on a walk with him.

He is a complete sweetheart with big eyes and super soft fur and tongue. He is full of life and brings joy to everyone he meets. He can not get enough interaction with people and will bring lots of joy to the right family!

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
