Description:
Scout is a handsome Border Collie mix. How glad he is to be safe with us. He was in a high kill shelter in Georgia scheduled to be euthanized. Isn't that sad? And aren't you glad that he is going to find a good home. That's what we do ~ find good, loving, safe homes for these pets who have been abandoned. Do you have such a home?

Everyone who meets Scout tells me what a wonderful dog he is. He loves to swim in the water, not a trait I normally associate with Border Collies. This little guy is definately worth meeting!!!

9/15 Volunteer Update: Scout attended the Lake Mary Petsmart event on Sunday and was wonderful. One man even commented that if he were to take any dog home with him, it would be Scout because he felt that he could be trusted with his kids and his other dog; and he was just soooo loving. Trying to take nice pictures of him for his webpage was next to impossible because everytime someone would bend down to take a picture, he would start walking over to snuggle! He is so loving and deserves a wonderful home where he can finally have all of the love he's been waiting for!

9/20 Foster Update:
Scout is housetrained. When Luke wakes up in the morning, Scout is waiting patiently by the sliding glass door. Scout also goes into his crate by himself to sleep sometimes.
I have a mean outside cat who isnt a wonderful cat tester but he did encounter her and he didnt show any signs of wanting to chase her. That was good on his part cause he would of gotten a taste of whip butt. If anything he would tend to avoid cats.
He enjoys walking every night and loves to ride in the car and go to the dog park. He gets along with our dogs and loves my kids (ages 8 & 11). He is an all around happy boy, tail is always wagging and he loves attention and just to be by you. Oh, and he is very smart. He catches on quickly!

9/27 Foster update:
This is a wonderful dog. Super affectionate. He will come up, give kisses, then flop down next to you to be petted. He will follow you from room to room throughout the day. Scout is very good around our youngest child who is 7 years old and the very active 4 year old from next door.
There have been no accidents indoors because he stands next to the sliding door at the back to let us know when he wants to go out.
He seems to get along well with other dogs. He likes to run around the backyard and wrestle with our 50lb lab mix.

Foster update 10/10: He looks 100% beagle except for the length of his fur and lack of the tri-color markings. Also, he's always got his nose to the ground! He displays none of the characteristics of a border collie and is not as hyper-alert as one, either. He's just about as beagly as you can get. My pit bull mix is a neutered male and they are calm together and also play well with each otherOne other thing about Scout - he does well off-leash as well as on. We have a greenbelt behind our house and he can walk free but listens well and comes when you call. I think this is one of the nicest things about a well-trained dog. We take our own dog for long walks in the woods off-leash, too, and it is one of the most enjoyable things we all do together.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Border Collie originated in Northumberland on the Scottish/English border. The breed is descended from old British droving breeds with some spaniel added. An outstanding herder, this hardy, agile, untiring sheepdog, is capable of mastering any type of herd. It is said that the Border Collie has an eye that can hypnotize cattle. He crouches down and mesmerizes the animals with its intense stare. One of the most trainable breeds, the Border Collie also serves well as a narcotics and bomb detection dog and is a frequent high performer in obedience, agility, Frisbee(TM) trials, police work, search & rescue, Flyball, performing tricks and competitive obedience. Some Border Collies have been trained very successfully as blind guide dogs. Currently very good results are obtained with them for general assistance to the handicapped in The Netherlands.
