Description: Meet Phoebe, she is a black and white lab/hound with a gorgeous, shiny coat with cute white knee socks.
Phoebe was orginally found as a stray and a nice lady adopted her. The lady already had another female dog and after lots of time and effort trying to help them get along, the two alpha girls were just not going to mesh well together, so it is time to find Phoebe a home of her own.
Phoebe is a delightful girl! She walks well on a leash and really enjoys her daily walk. She is super loving to people. She likes to play with toys, run in the backyard. Phoebe knows sit and down. She is very smart and will work for treats. She is quite athletic and agile.
She will do best as an only dog or with another submissive dog.
Pfun Phoebe Pfacts:
**Personality: Phoebe is very calm (downright lazy) at home, and only gets excited at home with visitors briefly, but will calm down quickly.
**Crate Training: Phoebe is crate trained and the minute you get out a dog cookie goes in her crate. She is crated during the day when we are out so there can be no fighting between the two dogs, but she has never been destructive (chewing etc) in our house. Phoebe is really scared of lightning and fireworks and will hide in her crate if she hears them (would make a lousy hunting dog for gun hunters).
**Housetraining: Phoebe is very good about housetraining and never messes or wets in the house.
**Leash Training: Phoebe is very good on leash although gets excited when she sees other dogs or close by cats or critters. We’ve been working on it and she’s much better at staying calm.
**Toys: Phoebe likes to play with toys and chews. They are often the basis for squabbles with the other dog so she would enjoy one on one toy tosses or play.
**Loves People:Phoebe is very affectionate and sometimes pushy for attention/petting but understands ‘go on’ ‘lay down’ and is generally very obedient. Phoebe loves people (she often favors visitors over us) and will settle in well with a new family.
Phoebe is interested in children and has had some child contact in which she was fine. However that has been rare with younger babies/toddlers. Older kids should be no problem.
**Exercise: Phoebe is very athletic and has jumped the 3 foot bannister on our raised deck. She does need lots of exercise. She would be great to go running with, maybe cycling with because she loves to run.
**Food: Phoebe eats Nutro Natural Choice Fish Meal and Potato dry food. 3 cups in the morning. Never has doggie gas on this diet.
Phoebe's back story:
Phoebe was found by her rescuer in 2011-2012 starving by the roadside. Her current owner met her at a dog park at with her rescuer and thought she would make a good playmate for their pit bull/boxer mix and they seemed to play well together.
Unfortunately, as time went on and the dogs matured, the wrestling and play turned into almost daily dominance fights between these two alpha females (often a very bad match). Trainers were brough in and tried many ways to help them get along. But the squabbles got more intense with our fears that one of them might really get hurt. We love them both but decided to rehome our beautiful Phoebe knowing our other pit mix (who has other behavior issues) could probably never be rehomed.
