Description:
April  is a very enthusiastic and happy dog. She likes to play with some dogs, but can be picky with her canine friends; we do not know if she is good with cats yet. We had her groomed and she is really pretty!  She is also very affectionate with people and will be a great addition to anyone's family.

Foster Update 6/9/14:
April is incredibly sweet and loves every second of affection given to her. At home, she's usually very calm and loves to lay on her bed and play with her toys, though she gnaws straight through most of them, so she prefers durable ones. Also, she is very quiet. Even when she hears noises outside, she doesn't make a peep. She's great at doing her business outside and walks well on the leash. She enjoys going for walks and runs, but she arguably loves her naps even more! Every night she sleeps in her crate and doesn't mind it one bit, but being alone will sometimes scare her, so keeping the crate in the bedroom would be best. She plays well with other dogs, but big dogs intimidate her at first--after a few minutes she gets used to them and plays along just the same! She does great with kids and loves all the attention they give her. She would make a great addition to any family looking for a gentle, sweet little dog (an incredibly cute one!).

The Lhasa Apso  is a non-sporting dog breed originating in Tibet. It was bred as an interior sentinel in the Buddhist monasteries, to alert the monks to any intruders who entered. Lhasa is the capital city of Tibet and apso is a word in the Tibetan language meaning "bearded", so, Lhasa Apso simply means "long-haired Lhasa dog". There are, however, some who claim that the word "apso" is a corruption of the Tibetan word "rapso", meaning "goat-like", which would make the equivalent translation "wooly Lhasa dog."

A Lhasa Apso responds to exercise and discipline with a calm assertive energy. These dogs require early socialization with dogs and other people as puppies and throughout their lives. They require patience and may be slow to house train, but in return, they can be quite comical, entertaining and caring companions. They aim to please their owners and enjoy training. While their personality belies their size, they need a home that is mindful that there is a small dog in the house to prevent injury. They enjoy vantage points in the house where they can view all that is going on.
