Description:
Rudy has been waiting for a home since June of 2008. He is a beautiful dog with golden eyes that match his coat. He looks to us like he is a Vizsla mix. Somehow or another this guy found himself in a kill shelter. A dear woman rescued him just before he was scheduled to be euthanized. Close call! Now he is looking for a forever home.

06/16/2008 Rudy is an incredible guy! He gets along with all the other dogs, walk well on a leash and loves to play with toys. He will pick up a toy and strut around like look what I have and then lay down to play with it. One warning though, he will tear up the stuffed animal! That is his favorite kind because he can shred them. He is a just a big love and needs someone to love him like he deserves!

11/07 Volunteer Update - I just love Rudy so much! Judy knows if I didn't have so many already - he'd be mine! He is the first dog I go to find when I am volunteering. He's always waiting with a toy in his mouth! He is such a happy dog and has such a sweet, sweet disposition. Truly, whoever adopts Rudy as a member of their family will be so very lucky.

11/27 Volunteer Update - When at the Center, I always have to make sure I go see Rudy. He is so sweet...and he is always waiting with his bowl or a toy in his mouth! He has been waiting patiently for his forever family.

12/31 Update:
I am sick of heart. Poor Rudy. We screened an application for him and everything looked great. We arranged for the gentleman to foster Rudy for a week before finalizing "just to make sure." One week went by. Then two. Then three. The guy didn't return our phone calls, respond to our e-mails. Judy was beside herself. She was going to call her lawyer. Finally she went over and banged on his door, demanding her dog back. And there was our poor Rudy, under-weight and under loved! Sometimes people say we are "over the top" on our screening processes, but when you see this kind of thing happen even after a thorough screening, well, it just breaks your heart. We'll do better for Rudy next time. Only the best for him. My poor little guy.....

1/17 Foster Update:
Rudy is in a wonderful foster home! Read this great update:
Rudy is doing really well, besides a few accidents in the house. He seems to get the concept of not going to the bathroom in the house but has had just a few slips. He seems to be kind of intimidated around other dogs, especially if they are hyper. He makes a WONDERFUL only dog, he is the best cuddle bug there is. He will come up to my room in the morning after my dad lets him out and just cuddle up with me and sleep for hours, he is always the one who doesn't want to get out of bed. He has to have some part of himself touching you and if he isn't touching then he will make his way over. Rudy also is learning the "sit" command, he is catching on very quickly so I know he is very trainable. He is a great listener, if you tell him no or call him he obeys. All together he is a great dog!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Vizsla is a Hungarian hunting dog which probably descended from two ancient breeds: the Transylvanian hound, and the Turkish yellow dog (now extinct). In more recent times, the blood of the German Shorthaired Pointer and the Pointer has been added to the Vizsla. After World War II, the breed was nearly extinct. Hungarians saved some individuals and built the breed up again. After World War II, when Russians took control of Hungary, the native Hungarians feared all the Vizsla would be killed by the Russians, because owning a Vizsla was a symbol of aristocracy. Some devotees smuggled Vizslas out into Austria and to other countries
