Description:
Terpsichore is a drop dead gorgeous Calico. If you aren't that familiar with cat breeds, Calicos are patchy multi-colored cats, Tortoiseshells are Calicos who are predominately black, and both are always female. I think that is the coolest thing....

Terpsichore came to us from via a concerned group of volunteers who work with an Animal Control office just outside of Gainesville. She and her two babies were transported here by a wonderful woman who happened to be coming down to the area with some dogs. Terpsichore (named after the Muse of dance) has proved to be a cautious girl, but definitely not an unapproachable one. She has two babies that she's caring for, and this is her first priority. We're fairly sure she'll come around once they are a little bit bigger. Right now, though, she's focused on motherhood, which is fine with us as her kittens are happy, healthy and cute as all get-out.

6/12 Foster Update:
"Terp was initially cautious but she is very loving and has been extremely friendly to my cat. She hasn't hissed and has tried very hard to make friends with my cat, even though my cat wasn't very friendly initially. She is very well-behaved and likes to be pet. She doesn't play much now, but that maybe be due to watching her kittens..."

6/24 Foster Update:
"Terp has become alot more playful recently, chasing the kittens around displaying energy she hadn't shown previously. She is still very affectionate and she tries rubbing up on my cat even though my cat continues to hiss at her. She uses the scratch boards/posts we have set up and she is very obediant, she catches on quick to what she is not supposed to do."

12/12 Foster Update:
She finally trusts me enough to allow claw trimming without it being a huge ordeal. She is very friendly, with a sweet personality. She is very playful and affectionate, she loves her light up toy ball, and she entertains herself alot of the time. She also loves grooming time, and loves her belly rubbed. She would very much love to play and keep my cat company, but my cat just won't allow it.

3.9.09 Volunteer Update~
Terpsichore is Miss Congeniality for sure! You can't help but love her and the way she comes right up to the door of her crate to give kisses is too cute for words.

The first twenty-four hours in your home are special and critical. According to the ASPCA, before you bring a new cat into your life, it helps to understand a little bit about how cats relate to their world.

For the cat, territory is of paramount importance. A cat views his territory the way most of us view our clothes; without them, we feel naked and vulnerable. Place us naked in a room filled with strangers and most of us would try to hide! It is common for cats, regardless of whether they come from homes or streets, to hide in a new territory. Very sensitive or undersocialized cats often hide for a week or more! You know that this cat is now a member of the family, but the cat doesn't.

You can help make the transition to a new home smoother and easier by providing some privacy for your new cat. If possible, start by preparing your home before you bring in the cat. Choose a room for the litter box; a bathroom works well. Set up the litter box with one to two inches of litter, and place it in a corner, if possible.

Now create a safe haven for the cat to hide in. You can buy a covered cat bed but a cardboard box turned upside down with two "doors" cut in it will work nicely. Why two "doors?" Many cats seem to feel more secure if they have a second "escape" route. Get a box big enough for the cat to stand up, turn around, stretch out and lie down in -- but keep it cozy! Place the box next to the wall or in a corner where the cat can see the door to the room. You don't want the cat to feel trapped. Place a sisal, cork or corrugated cardboard scratching post next to it. Finally, clear off a shelf for the cat to perch on to view his new world.

After you have prepared the bathroom, cat-proof every other room of your home. Ar
