Petey, is now my office dog she lays in a Queen type bed , enjoys going for walks is less timid, non- barker, enjoys her food. I can see Petey in a home with a large yard since she spent many hours with her owner tending to his landscape business. She will jump a five foot fence Kathy and I can attest to that so she will need to be monitored in a new home. She's a Beauty. Judy 9-4-2013
This is Petey. I know... funny name for a girl. We're guessing that she is around 3 years old. She was left on a gentleman's property after he passed away. I knew both of them so I went to his home to see what had become of her. When I entered the gate, she ran up to me and rolled over for me to rub her belly. She wouldn't get into my car, though. She was committed to her man and their property. I went back the next day with Judy. Again, Petey ran up to greet me and offered her belly. When she saw the leash in Judy's hand, she took off. She gave me a workout, then hid under the house. It took some time, patience, and treats, but I coaxed her out, Judy slipped a leash on her and we got her into the car. She was terrified! She sat on the floor for a while, then between Judy and I. Several times, she tried to jump in my lap, which wouldn't have been a bad thing, but I was driving. She eventually laid her head in my lap and sat there until we arrived at the center. She was a little apprehensive of the barking at the center, but let us give her a bath and vaccinations. She even let Judy clean her ears! She was so well behaved! Petey is sweet, gentle, and beautiful. She's looking for a forever home where she will be safe and loved. We know she is missing her human very much, but we are sure she will love you too.
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
