FOSTER UPDATE 10/27/10: Heather is doing rather well here. For the first few hours, she would not move from the cat carrier. Both of us were worried at first. She was very shy and timid, only coming out for food, water and to use the restroom. It took about a full week (7 days) for her to open up and come out from hiding under our bed. Also, moving into the family room under our couch from time to time. Heather is now scouting out new places in the house where she can sit, sleep and roll around. She is very loving and wants attention constantly. In addition, she seems to be getting along with our cat, Bailey. They are warming up to the idea of each other and, every once-n-awhile, I see them smelling each other. We are enjoying her company very much.
I had to come in and edit Heather's page because as of this month, everything we previously wrote is completely inaccurate! After almost 2 years with PRBJ (much of that spent with a foster before moving to the open cat room), Heather has blossomed and come out of her shell. She is now one of the pack that greets people at the door and is more and more visible each time I come to the shelter. She loves to be pet. Not so big on being picked up, but for a cat who wouldn't come near anyone less than 2 months ago, we'll take liking to be pet! She does all right with other cats. She doesn't fight, but she doesn't really seek them out either. She co-exists, if you will. We also know she has a hard time with transitions. She definitely needs a slow hand and time to come around on her own. But patience with Heather really, really pays off. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing you have earned her trust and love!
