Description: Kody is an adorable Lab/Flat-Coated Retriever mix with soft medium-length solid black hair. This boy is the sweetest teddybear ever. One of our volunteers took him in.... well, why don't I let her tell you his story?
"I took Kody from a VERY pregnant young girl who could no longer care for him with a baby due any day. These people saw him being pushed out of a car near a busy road and feared he would be run over, so they took him in and cared for him. He is very active and is going to be a big boy! Too much for a newborn and a new mother to deal with. The girl cried when I took him; she really loved this dog and was sad to see him go, but knew it was the right thing for him. She gave me two bags full of his toys, food, treats, bowls, etc. He is in really great shape, is super friendly and has the softest fur ever! This boy is just like a big teddy bear! He is very affectionate and loving towards humans and other dogs. I have not seen one ounce of aggression whatsoever. If you tell him NO, he understands you mean it and stops what he is doing. The only reason I am not keeping him myself is because two of my other dogs are not very fond of him (due to his size and age) and one seems jealous."
According to his previous owner, Kody cannot tolerate people food well, and seems to have a sensitive stomach. I would recommend a high quality natural food for this boy to keep his skin, coat and tummy happy! Kody is still very much a puppy, and like most puppies, he tends to jump up in excitement, does a little “mouthing” at times, and occasionally tries to play with the cats. These are all easily correctable with time and maturity. He is a little hesitant to get in a vehicle, but we've made progress on that, as he actually enjoys going to my vet's office! Given that he was forced out of a car, it is very understandable! Kody does get pretty excited about meal time, but I make him sit first for his dinner. He does know SIT & PAW and is very smart and trainable. Kody is just an overall very playful, outgoing, water-loving puppy! He likes to sit on top step of the pool and I'm sure will easily learn to jump in if he sees another dog do it. Unfortunately, none of my other dogs will go in the pool! He is very attentive to humans and willing to please. Kody loves to meet new people. What would be an ideal home? Well, a family or individual that is fairly active, not gone for long hours and/or has another dog or dogs for him to play with. Ideal would be someone with a pool or who lives by/on a lake or could take him somewhere he can swim often. Kody gets hot very easily - so no staying outdoors or on porches while owners are away. He would not do well in an apartment or crated for long periods of time. Dogs his own size to play with (45-80lbs) would be great. He will need a firm but gentle owner, and probably not good for an inexperienced dog owner. Older kids would be ok, but because of his size and tendency to jump, I would avoid small kids in the home. Needs daily activities, supervision, chew toys, etc. until he finishes teething. However, he is fully housetrained and very trustworthy in the house. Not much of a runner, but would do great as a walking companion. I can promise you that he will make a wonderful and loving companion for the right family. Can you give KodyBear the great home he deserves?
