Description:
Metro was rescued after a caring dog lover found this poor soul eating out of a dumpster. This amazing dog now has his whole life to look forward to now that someone took the time to stop and rescue him. We were happy to help the rescuer find a great forever home.  Here is her story:

My nine year old son and I were on our way home from an appointment in Metrowest.  It was about 7:30pm, the temperature was dropping, and we were trying to get home quickly, as it was a school-night.  Suddenly, we saw a black and white dog running across the road we were on. I honked my horn and flashed my hi-beams at oncoming cars so they wouldn't hit him.  I pulled over so my son and I could get the dog to come closer to us and away from the road.  The dog was extremely skinny, scared, and hungry and we weren't able to catch him. We tried and tried, but it was getting late and the dog kept getting spooked.  We gave up and went home, but couldn't stop thinking about the poor dog left out in the extreme cold. Early the next morning, we went back to the same spot armed with enticing food, and found the dog near a dumpster. The dog quickly took to my son and we were able to get him in the car.

  • Leash Manners - Metro has been learning to walk on a leash - I use a prong collar so he doesn't pull.  Now I'm actually able to walk Metro along with my own two dogs, at the same time.  He loves to takes walks and is a very fast learner with our routines.
  • Crate/House Training - When I first brought Metro into my home, I kept him crated away from my own two dogs until I knew more about him. He wasn't housebroken when we found him, but has learned very quickly and hasn't had an accident in a long time. Since Metro is probably just a year old and is still a puppy, I crate him whenever I leave the house.
  • Socialization - Metro is a very sweet and loving dog, who only wants to be loved and to please his owner(s).  He would be best as the only "dog" in his new home. He is playful and submissive. He loves being with older children and is friendly and playful with other neighborhood children. He is friendly to people that walk up to him while he is taking walks. He doesn't show any fear towards any certain person - man or woman.  I'm not sure how he is around cats, but he has never pulled away from me to chase any squirrels.
  • Energy Level/Exercise - Since Metro was recently neutered and it was a complicated procedure, we have had to keep him relatively calm.  His energy level is moderate and he sleeps through the night on a dog bed on the floor near my bed. I walk Metro once or twice a day between one-two miles total.
  • Daily Structure/Schedule - Metro eats breakfast around 8-8:30am, has a couple treats during the day, and eats dinner sometime between 6-7 pm.
  • Temperament - Metro is very sweet and loving - he has an extremely good temperament and tolerates my aggressive male chihuahua jumping up and attacking his face and neck.
  • Obedience Training - Metro has learned the command SIT, COME, and is working on LAY DOWN.
  • Behaviors - Metro has regular puppy chewing needs.  He has not chewed on anything in our house, but needs to have a good strong chew toy.
  • Personality Quirks - Metro is extremely eager to please us - it just seems like he understands he is safe now.
The Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. They are highly protective of their owners and the owner's property. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed, they should not be left alone with unfamiliar children. Used as all around working farm dogs, they were referred to as "the poor mans horse". They are strong and generally weigh between 40 and 70 lbs. They have a life expectancy of about 12 - 14 years.
