Description:
Maurice is a beautiful Cava-Poo whom has been neglected by his owner and is now looking for a loving home whom will care for all his needs. One of our volunteer families got a call from a coworker, and that's where the story begins:

I recieved a request from a co-worker asking if I would take in her puppy.  She said to me that since she is a working single mom she didn't realize how long she would have to leave the puppy in its crate everyday.  She explained to me that she would let the puppy out in the morning and then put it back into his crate during the day until they got home around 7:00 at night, let it out to eat and play until bedtime then put it back into the crate.  I felt horrible for this dog and agreed to take him.  She immediately brought him over to our house.  I am glad I took him as I believe that family never researched a puppy and how to take care of one.  The puppy has never been groomed, they had him in a very small crate with a water bottle (?) and had been feeding him rabbit food.  This dog is very sweet tempered, but after a few hours we knew that  a dog this little will not work out in our ACTIVE  home.  I needed to find him a home where he can gently play, love and be happy.  My family needs big dogs as we have 3 daughters ages 8, 10, & 13 and we have Romi a 65 pound Lab-mix.  This poor  little puppy gets run over and stepped on all the time in our home.  Here is a little info on the puppy.

*he has an injured right back leg, he looks, runs and acts as a normal puppy but limps.
*he LOVES to lay on eveyones lap all the time.
*he follows us around everywhere
*he does use the bathroom outside, however he seems to hate the grass
*he walks on a leash well
*he is listed as a "cavapoo", looked it up it is a mix of mini poodle and cavilier charles
*he needs lots of grooming as his hair grows like our own
*dispite his leg he runs and loves to play fetch with a ball
*he has not chewed anything :)
*he is extremely loving, not too hyper and very very sweet
*he is wonderful with the kids (no biting, chewing ) and with Romi our other dog

Medical update: Maurice has been seen by our vets and after having his leg examined and x-rayed they have determined that Maurice old break can not be repaired. They recommend give basic joint supplements but this is all that can be done. Maurice is not in any pain and is a happy outgoing puppy who loves his people and his toys.

PRBJ has since taken this gorgeous gentle puppy to the vet , had him nuetered, his leg xrayed and checked, his teeth cleaned (yes already) and then to the groomer.  He is ready for a gentle household that wants a puppy to play with and wants someone smaller, more gentle and can care for him as he deserves for the rest of his wonderfuly long life!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is descended from the King Charles Spaniel and other small Toy Spaniels seen in many sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth century paintings. Its breeders were trying to reproduce a toy dog similar to those seen in portraits from the time of England's Charles II, who was said to dote on these small dogs. In the 1920's the American, Roswell Eldridge, offered prize money during a Cruft's Dog Show in London, to any person exhibiting King Charles Spaniels with long noses. He was looking for dogs similar to those appearing in Van Dyck's paintings of King Charles II and his spaniels. By the 1940's these dogs were classified as a separate breed and were given the prefix Cavalier, to differentiate them from their forebears. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an eager, affectionate tail-wagger. Lively, outgoing and sportive. These fearless lively little dogs want to please. They are intelligent enough to understand what you want and therefore are usually easy to train and respond well to gentle obedience training. They are said to be naturally well behaved and get along well with other dogs and non-canine pets. Cavalier's love people and need lots of companionship to be happy. They should not be left alone all day. They are descended from hunting dogs and love to romp in the great outdoors. This breed sometimes displays a chasing instinct and should be kept well enclosed or leashed so he does not get lost or run over by a car! They do best with older considerate children and some can be reserved with strangers. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a pleasant companion dog. It has a noteworthy sense of smell and vision and can be used in short hunts in open country. They do well in competitive obedience. They have a life expectancy of 9-14 years.
