Description:
Mary is a lovely little lab mix. She isn't all that old, but she is so mellow, we've qualified her for our Seniors for Seniors program ~ if adopted by a senior citizen, her adoption fee is only $50.

In January she was dropped off to a vet by someone who said he'd found her on the side of the road. This gentleman seemed to have a lot of details about a dog he'd supposedly just found, but, well, whatever.... The vet took Mary with the intent of finding her a new home but after several months with no success, he was going to put her down. One of the vet techs in the office said no way and contacted us asking for our help. Certainly we will be happy to find Mary a home.
The more we get to know Mary, the more we love her. According to her foster, "she is wonderful. She came out of her shell and likes to snuggle and chill."
She really is a doll, does so well with the other dogs, loves to just sit by your side. She is big enough to give an unwelcome intruder pause too! So if you want some easy going company plus a sense of security, Mary is the dog for you!

Foster update: 10/05/2008

Mary is good with all animals and wouldn't hurt a flea! Well maybe a flea so we might want to say fly. She doesn't chew or have any really bad habits. Ok, one bad habit, she steals my littles dogs chewies and hold them for ransom. She just wants to be with her animal friends and her humans. She is very mellow and really requires no special care other than loving her. She gets excited when you come home and says RI ROVE ROO! (I love you in Mary talk) No, really she says that! She would prefer to be the only one that you show love to but is ok when the others get their fare share of the loving.

*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
