Remi was on death row before he was pulled by an amazing volunteer of ours. This sweet puppy had a long journey to being healthy but has been happy since they day he was rescued. We're looking for a great home for this sweet puppy.
Leash Manners – Walks very well on a leash.
Crate/House Training - Crate trained and leash trained. When being left alone in the home Remi needs to be in a crate. Remi goes in the crate when asked, I just point and snap my fingers and he goes right in. He sleeps in the crate at night and naps in it on his own during the day, sometimes. He is calm in the crate and does not bark, or scratch or create any fuss. He is good in the house so I only crate him at night, to sleep.
Socialization – Enjoys playing in the yard with my dogs enjoys play fighting with my small rat terrier, and never hurts her. He is very friendly with anyone he sees. He has been to the mall and handed out kisses to all the kids and any one that bent down too close. Remi loves all kids and adults and dogs. Remi loves to play and he tends to have his mouth open when playing so a home without small children is ideal.
Energy Level and Exercise – Moderate energy – enjoys the freedom of the yard and motivates my dogs to chase and play with him. His energy is high when outside but seems to be much calmer and lays at my feet when in the house. He has been known to play fight in the house but does so very quietly. Remi is happy to walk on the leash and does not pull or try to lag behind.
Daily Structure and Schedule – Remi is fed a can of wet food mixed with a can of dry food, in the morning at about 7am, and fed two small cans of dry food again at about 1 pm and again at 7pm. Remi has learned not to go after the food bowl until after you set it down and say OK for him to begin eating. The wait command will keep him sitting and waiting for his OK command to begin eating.
Confidence Level – Confident and friendly in his interaction with all dogs and people he meets. He played well with my small Rat Terrier and enjoys play fighting and chasing. Remi is comfortable with people as soon as he meets them and enjoys being petted.
Obedience Training – Understands Sit, Down, Come Here, Wait, and No, working on shaking hands. Remi will not rush out of the gates or doors if you just say NO, after a time or two he has learned that you have to call him for him, for him to have permission to cross over that area. This has also worked for restriction to areas of the house. Remi is an exceptionally smart dog and eager to please.
Behaviors – Not at all toy or food aggressive, even welcomes being petted while eating. Loves toys and will toss his own toys, best to give a durable toy, the stuffed toys don’t last long. He is quick to go outside when I open the door and announce “Remi Outside”. I have had Remi nearly a week now and have not seen any destructive or aggressive behavior. He does keep my rat terrier worn out with his playfulness.
Personality Quirks – Remi is quiet almost always, and only will let out a quick bark to alert you to a strange noise but is quiet when you tell him its OK.
Ideal Home- Would really like a fenced yard but not completely necessary if taken for walks, Remi likes to run in the yard but not for very long at a time. Remi prefers to be indoors and resting at my feet if not play fighting with my dog. Remi would do well alone but would love another dog as a playmate and is not too rough with even a much smaller dog. Children should not be a problem, I have seen Remi with many children at the mall and he loves the attention, and seems to welcome the mild abuse the children seem to deliver, only returning the kids hugs with a big wet kiss, of his own. I can see Remi fitting into just about any home, with kids or not, with another dog or not.
The Terrier is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of vitality. They are highly protective of their owners and the owner's property. It is usually very friendly, but has an uncanny ability to know when it needs to protect and when everything is okay. Excellent with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play. As with any breed, they should not be left alone with unfamiliar children. Used as all around working farm dogs, they were referred to as "the poor mans horse". They are strong and generally weigh between 40 and 70 lbs. They have a life expectancy of about 12 - 14 years.
