Description: Lucy is a simply wonderful dog. We're not sure what her heritage is. Oh, there's probably some lab in there, a bit of shepherd, but truly, she is a Heinz 57 kinda dog! In my humble opinion, the best kind of dog there is. A good mix of breeds tends to weed out the troublesome traits and leave all the best behind! And that's our girl Lucy! Lucy is a very friendly, happy dog. She loves to play with rope toys and kongs. She is very outgoing and friendly with strangers (yeah, that would be the lab, not the shepherd), and will come when called if she gets off the leash (must not be a drop of Bassett in her!). Lucy loves to run. Her ideal home would have a large fenced yard with children to play with her. Lucy is good with children and playfully chases cats. She likes to play all the time, will lay at your feet while you work at a table, knows how to sit, stay and walk at heel. With Lucy you get an extra bonus ~ Lucy has a Bark Buster Life of the Dog Guarantee. Her new family will receive free training for Lucy’s lifetime. There is no charge and the guarantee is recognized and honored in forty states. Check www.barkbusters.com for details. (You can read about my personal experience with Bark Busters under our Information dropdown, 'Dog Problem? Call Bark Busters'). Her owner contact Make at Bark Busters to help him with housetraining her. She now gives good signals at the door when ready to go out. One of the nice things about Lucy is that she responds best to a gentle touch ~ heavy handed discipline only frightens her.
03/10/09 Update: Sadly, Lucy is once again looking for a new home. Lucy needs a home with children and yard where she can play instead of being in a crate for 9 hours a day. Her owners are just heartbroken, but they know this is best for Lucy. She is a beautiful, sweet, playful dog that deserves a forever home.
*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
